she's got this 30 page paper in her final semester of school and it's seriously kicking her ass. On top of having to worry about other classes in school, she's got a 3 year old to look after, along with a job. It's alot to juggle, but she's done it like a champ for the past year we've been dating.

However, the past 2-3 weeks she hasn't been doing so well. She broke down in front of me a couple times, her parents, her sister, and even the teacher of the 30 page paper. It's getting bad, I even talked to her mom about what I could to help her out, but she couldn't offer any suggestions because she doesn't know what to do either.

I've been offering everything I can, laptop to take to quiet places, offered to help with the research, gave her moral support, let her know I was there to help with anything day or night. But she hasn't taken advantage of any of it and I ~want~ to help her through this.

I've never seen her act like this and I'm getting worried. Any suggestions from the AT'ers would be greatly appreciated.

take the kid off her hands while she finishes her school work, you'll come out of it looking like a champ.

Ouch...she does have a lot to juggle. I think it would be in her best interest to remove a ball from that amazing juggling act she has going. She obviously can't drop the 30 page paper, nor the child. See if you can call her boss, explain to him/her what's going on, and see if she can get a break for a week or two. Maybe by then she could finish (or come close to finishing) her paper, which would no doubt be a huge weight off of her shoulders. Also, if she's not up to going to class, find someone in her class that could give her the notes...best of luck to you and your girlfriend.

Ditto. Get a babysitter or do it yourself, but give her some time to be alone without any distractions. Get her not to think about that paper for a few hours too..

Yeah bail while you still have the chance. Forget loyalty, odds are in 10 years you both will hate each other anyways.

Set a reward for finishing the paper. Something very selfcentered and materialistic also. It is easier to acomplish hard task when there is a reward waiting. We used to plan our end of semester magarita parties well in advance of finals.

Such optimism. ;)

All you can do is continue to offer support. Be there for her. Offer to take the kid off of her hands while she studies. You could even try some pick me ups like sending her flowers or writing her a poem.

Red Dawn..as much as you take the blunt approach to life, would it be possible for you to take a slightly more polite/gentle approach?

then it would not be funny and there would be no point in Red Dawn posting anymore.

I have to agree with RedDawn. Get out while the getting is good. Don't saddle yourself with a woman who has so many problems. Life is short and it can be sweet.

I don't think much of her mother, either. What the hell kind of mother wouldn't know how to help her own daughter emotionally? Geez. Sounds like the family from Hell. You want to marry that someday?

To each his own. I took the easy way out and married a woman with no baggage and have been happy for ** years.

Jusst remember that "No good deed will go unpunished!"

First off she sounds like a helluva person, she works, goes to school to better hereself and deals with a 3 yr old. It's not easy to juggle all that all the time. I would offer to babysit a bit ,even helping out with the pickup/drop off routine that young kids have everyday would take a lot off her mind.I'd also seriously encourage her to make judicious use of any sick days she might have at her job.

I worked fulltime nights, went to school evenings and Saturdays and still had to deal with a toddler.Lol, I ran on fumes I think. To this day still remember each and every person who gave me even the slightest bit of help and encouragment.
You also sound like you care about her a lot,go with that, how would you like her to respond to you if it was you under such a heavy stress level ?

Btw, I remember times when papers were getting near due as the total worst days of my life,if she's also on any kind of
acedemic based scholorship the pressure is even worse to excell on papers.
