Ever put a rusty nail-screw through your foot? During one summer, I made the mistake of wearing my track shoes to work. I was breaking apart old pallets that were held together with nails that had very very small scerw threads around them for added grip.

I stepped down on one and it stuck through the top of my shoe.

I did it once, but it was a long thick rusty one. Didn't hurt that much going in, but it went in like an inch into my foot.

I didn't get tetnis, but it hurt walking on it for a week.

Just soak your foot In a bowl of soapy warm water while on the computer/watching tv.

I hope you let it bleed a little. It's good to do that to wash out any germs. Puncture wounds are the most likely to get infected because the wound can usually be sealed up pretty easy with some direct pressure.

Odds? I dunno.

It doesn't need to be rusty, if you haven't had a shot in 7 year you need one. Tetnus is a very horrible disease, it's not worth the risk. Unless of course you wanna spend 7 months with all your muscles completely locked up and possibly die from starvation/dehydration during that time.

eh....i'm getting a shot don't worry about it.

what happened was I was chopping / breaking apart some pallets or crates that goods come on from this one company that let us use the wood for firewood. I was in my barefeet doing it and made a wrong step and in went the nail.

Anyways, I sqeezed some blood out as much as I could and then washed it out with some anti-bacterial soap.

Scared me :(

I stepped on a rusty one last Saturday night. I had pulled down some paneling and had the trim lying on the floor, nails down of course. Later that night I was going to grab a CD and walked through that room without turning on a light, tripped over the trim, it flipped over and bammo......two puncture wounds from a rusty nail in the bottom of my right foot. Washed them off, put some alcohol on them, put some Neosporin on them, then bandaged with gauze. Cleaned the wounds again before I went to bed and then several times on Sunday. Monday morning I called my doctor to see when my last Tetanus shot was, I couldn't remember, they said it was in 1995 and that the shot is good for 10 years but wanted me to come in for a booster anyway. That was the worst part, damn left arm hurt all day and part of the next. Still cleaning the wound in the mornings, when I get home from work, and then again before I go to bed. Just make sure you keep yours nice and clean as well. A good thing to put on it if you can let it breath for a while is pure Tea Tree Oil. It's one of the best anti-septics in the world. When I get home from work in the evenings I clean my wounds, then use a cotton ball to apply Tea Tree Oil to the wound and the affected area. Make sure and get the shot. Tetanus is second only to Botulism in it's deadliness. Here is a link to the CDC site Good info there....

You are much more likely to get an infection, get it looked at as soon as possible. Tetanus shots are good for 7-10 years so try and remember when you got your last shot, otherwise your shoulder is going to hurt for a couple days.
