So I saw a Saturn Sky in person...

The local dealership had one on the showroom floor waiting for the guy to pick it up (I was in for car service). Silver, stock 170hp, and...automatic (ugh). Anyway, it looked AWESOME. Pictures don't do it justice. Actually, after I saw the final design, I wasn't too impressed by it. Turns out it just doesn't photograph well. Overall it is a really slick car. I got to sit in it; it was suprisingly roomy. I'm about 6'1" and I fit just fine inside. The windshield is really angled, but then it's a small sports car so what do you expect. I could almost see over the top lol. They did a good job on the interior design and ergonomics and everything, I didn't feel cramped at all. Here's a decent picture of it, although if I had only seen it in pictures I would have never really been interested in buying it:

I saw a Pontiac Solstice driving around town and while it looks pretty nice, I think the Sky looks lightyears better. I was very impressed. I was talking to a sales guy there who said they just sold a red one with chrome rims. They offer a 260hp version as well (Red Line?). The wait is 6 months for a new Sky. It definately needs a rollbar though!

There are some pics over at CarDomain, although for some reason it doesn't look as good in the pictures as it does in person. The front end is really nice, but it looks kinda weird in photos. Here are a few:

Lots of Sky info/media at Saturn Fans:

Overall, I was very impressed. There are some cars that look great in photos, but they don't impress you in person; this is a car that doesn't look especially cool in photos but looks spectacular in person. I'll definately have to consider this one in the future. *sighs and goes back to his base-model sedan*

Cliff's:
1. Visited local Saturn dealership
2. Saw the Sky
3.

To be honest, I had the same reaction when I saw one in person. I wasn't initially too impressed by the photos I saw, but they are very nice looking cars.

That car is hot. If GM could find a way to produce more cars like the Sky, they'd be turned around in no time.

Yeah, a guy down the street has one of the first ones off the line in his garage (he's an employee). Silver and sharp 🙂

I totally agree, I saw one yesterday at some promotion, and it looks way better than any pictures I've seen.

I wonder if it's something about that platform/size that just doesn't photograph well, since I had a similar thought about the Solstice. (Although I do prefer the Sky.)

Yeah, I took a pic on my cell phone and sent it to my brother, but it ended up looking kind of...squished. I dunno, something about the design & size. But man that silver is SHARP in person! 😀

FIXED

Haha 🙂 The model on the floor was $25k...amazing price for a roadster!

btw the Saturn van is one of the ugliest things I've ever seen in my life 😛

Oh yeah, if you live in New England and want to take a test drive, visit the dealer in Albany, NY - they're the only one around that has a demo car. I guess most of the Sky owners were never able to drive the car before buying it :Q That's a couple hour drive for me, might make for a fun day trip 😉

Yeah, I've seen some pictures, looks great! I think I'd get the green or silver one. The silver is kind of neutral and you can see the lines better imo. The green looks pretty slick though:

There's a red one on ebay right now, with the chrome rims, but it kind of looks like any other car in that color:

The problem with GM, as I've said before, is that they're stuck paying retirees from the 70s health benefits. They made too many deals to be a good employer back in the old days and the competition simply doesn't have that kind of overhead. GM would be better off to close their doors and reopen under a different name with a total management switch (for gubment reasons). This would get them out of the liabilities they setup long ago... 🙁

Its an Opel Speedster or Vauxhall VX220 for you guys in Europe.

Love the Sky especially compared to its sibling the Solstice. Great lines. Is it a FR of a FF? I can't find any info.

EDIT*Nevermind, I found it.

ahh no way. Lol and the VX220 is just a reshaped Lotus Elise (they used the same chassis, but changed the shell).

I saw a black Solstice yesterday and was quite impressed. haven't seen any saturn variants around here yet though.

I couldn't agree more. They Sky looks soooo much better in person. I am normally a small roadster hater. Not anymore I guess.
