I just got my kick-ass HIS X1900XT in today and have been playing around with the settings. However I noticed that my default clockspeep in TrayTools AND CCC said Core: 500, Memory: 1188. Those numbers SHOULD look more like 625/1450... so what gives? I don't want to OC this thing just to get my standard speed... is this a defect?

Those are the 2D speeds. When you fire up a game, the 3D speeds will kick in.

I see.. so there's nothing wrong with these numbers competitively then? Or is there a way to see 3D clock speeds just to see how fast it gets?

ya, you can use rivatuner and set it to run in the background whilst you run a game, when you enter a FULL screen 3D application, the clocks will change, as you exit the FULL screen 3D app. the clocks will revert back to the 2D settings. you can then reopen rivatuner to verify that your card is in fact the KICK ass card that you bought, have fun with it, if you are new to RivaTuner, you can set it to monitor a veritable plethora of aspects for you card as well as your CPU. Again, have fun

Unless that's the HIS with new fan, you'll want to get the accelero X2 to cut back on noise. VERY IMPORTANT: DON'T USE THE ACCELERO X2 RAM PADS IF YOU INTEND TO EVER REMOVE THE X2 FOR ANY REASON!!!

The damn things have super glue and wont come off unless you use a knife -- not easy.

Also, use some artic silver on there instead of the default crap paste.

Then you'll want to use ATI Tool to set the fans to run @ 100% when above a certain C* threshhold.

Another thing, when you remove the Heatsink, you'll see something written on your ram. If it says BJ11 then it has x1900xtx ram! If it says BJ12, then you have normal XT ram. If you DO have BJ11 ram, I have a special bios that will OC your card without tinkering with anything and has faster fan so no need for ATI tool: My custom bios

Hmm, this makes me want to write up an x1900 newbie guide.

Yeah I got the HIS model with the IceQ3 cooler on it (why not for $5 more), but thanks for the info.

Like the others said thats the normal. Those are 2D speeds. in the CCC look at the Requested Speed that will be what it runs at in 3D.

Man that is so insane....LOL I got my XTX not long after they were released and just slapped it in, installed the drivers with CCC and have been enjoying my card ever since. Now running Cat. 6.6's. In all honesty these cards aren't near as loud as some would have you think and the stock cooler exhausts all the heat the card produces right out of the case. Also, unless you want to overclock the crap out of your card, CCC is all you need. Yeah, it's a little slow to load, but how often do you really need to open it? The memory usage argument is pretty weak as well.... if you have a gig or more of ram memory use is well below 10% of system memory, you won't even notice it unless you're anal about these things... :)
