Here is my predicament. I have been out of the hardware loop for YEARS, and I am trying to put a system together as cheaply as possible to be able to run World of Warcraft w/ reasonable framerates at mid settings.

My question is, I have an old box with a good quality 300w PSU, and this --> SYSTEM (upgrade kit 1) is what I will be running. Add on a PCI wireless network card and a CDrom, IDE hd, and that is the entirety of my system specs. I'm wondering if the 300 Watt PSU will be sufficient to run THIS BOARD -->Asus (M2N-MX SE Plus w/ the amd 64 +3800 cpu) and those few extra components.

I do not intend to do ANY overclocking, everything will be at stock frequencies. So yah, whaddya say, will that be enough power to get me by, or should I just go out and drop the 50 bux for a new PSU?

Thanx for the input chums, I appreciate it a bunch ;)

(getting my wife to let me spend money, is like pulling teeth... seriously)

should have asked us for advice on how to pull more money from your wife, or how to pull more teeth :p Anyways, you've no videocard, just the onboard video, and your powerdraw won't be very high. What's exactly a qaulity PSU though ? A antec earthwatts 380w will do just fine, and can often be had for 30$ in case you need a new one. And I honestly suggest getting a videocard.

Btw, you sure about getting that upgrade kit ? I'd rather spend 60$ on a p35 mobo, 70$ on a e2160, and 35$ on 2gb of ddr2 800mhz ram instead. That's 165$, and it will blow that upgrade kit away, especially when overclocked slightly. You will have to buy a seperate videocard though, you should check the the for sale/trade forum, and see if you can get your hands on a used 7600gt, 1950 pro or something around 50-75$.

not sure how good this is, but this may help on the graphics front:

http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=202540650

you are spending $150 on that upgrade kit,

what I would do is try and find a motherboard, chip, 2g ram, and a cheap graphics card for that similar price...

if you want wow to be playable you need 2g of ram...(i play WoW, have played it at 512mb, 1g, and 2g and the difference is huge, WoW itself will take 700mb, plus OS puts you at over 1g right there, nevermind addons, vent etc..)

my suggestion to you is to go to the general hardware, write down what you have, what your hardline budget is, what you want to do, mention no overlcocking and ask for advice...

you should also write how sensitive to mail-in rebates you are...would the Mrs. consider a $100 item with a $50 rebate as $100 or $50....
