So I randomly came across a small air compressor

I was meeting a person at Walgreen's to sell something and while I was waiting this girl in the spot next to me(on my bike) was on the phone calling people to borrow 10 bucks. She was sitting with her door open leaning out so I could hear. I asked if she needed money and she said yes because she was short on a prescription. I asked her if she had anything to sell and she named off some stuff and then showed me the air compressor. It is new and has never been used, it is a Central Pneumatic 3 gallon 100 psi. She said 20 but I offered 30 I figured it had to be worth that or more.

Sounds like the price was fair. It's useful for tires, blowing stuff out (quickly), etc. I haven't done much else with it.

Thing can blow air for 60-90 seconds, then takes 5 minutes to air back up. Don't expect it to do a lot, but it will be handy.

An air compressor has two ratings that have to go together to tell you anything.

It may be able to build 90psi, but how many cubic feet per minute can it produce at that pressure?

Think of psi like voltage, and cfm as the amperage you can draw from a compressor.

Yeah, being that she had it in her car you can kinda figure it's not going to be a high scfm unit. They still do come in pretty handy though especially if you do a lot of different little projects.

very good. I had a cigarette lighter one that I used for 15 years. Did not use it often but it came in handy, getting cars going that had been left idle for years.

It is, in small doses. My dad had a tankless compressor for airing up tires that worked as soon as you kicked it on. These things will work alright once they charge up to 100 PSI.

Problem is, it takes a while to get there. Basically, if you're trying to get to 30+ PSI, you have to have more pressure in the tank to get it to flow. It just takes a long time. (4 minutes)

1 and 0.6 CFM probably won't do much good for working in the shop but you could use it for blowing things out or small woodworking project. Just don't try and run a framing nailer or an impact wrench off of it.

Yeah, you aren't running any tools off that.

Actually, a nail gun should work as long as fully charged it has enough air to nail one nail, then you wait 2 or 3 minutes for it to recharge.

anyone know how quick it's supposed to go from 0psi to 100psi? i've got a 2 gallon oilless compressor that takes ~20 minutes to fill up. i've sprayed it down with soapy water and there doesn't seem to be any leaks.

It it has a filter try taking that apart. It may not be able to breathe.
