So i popped off the Heatsink/Fan on my Radeon 9700....

Zalman going on? I did this to my geforce 4 and ended up using a combination of goo gone, finger nail polish remover (specifically acetone), and a flat screwdriver. I didn't get it perfect but pretty darn good.

I used a razor, but I wouldn't recommend that to anyone 😉

Ok, i'll use some old business cards to get it off....

90% or Goo-be-gone?

As quoted from Arctic Silver Inc.:

"High-purity isopropyl alcohol" or "acetone"-based cleaners will work best

"Never use any oil or petroleum based cleaners (WD-40, citrus oil based cleaners and many automotive degreasers) on the base of a heatsink. The oil, which is engineered to not evaporate, will fill in the microscopic valleys in the metal and significantly reduce the effectiveness of any subsequently applied thermal compound."

Peace

ok now that i got the gunk off....

Should i use the included "Artic Cooling Silicone Heatsink Compound' or the new Artic Silver 5 i just got in?

Did you even need to ask?

By the way, I hope you cleaned off the residue.

Its all gone except two tiny little yellow flecks that wont budge... They seem to be stuck in the lazer etching of the ATI logo.
