Anyone have any thoughts?
It's a 4MP with 10X optical zoom. Offers much more manual control than my last camera, and can even take an external flash. It seems like a step further into the photo enthusiast realm, more so than my last camera that had some manual controls.
I was considering a Canon, but I was really happy with the pics from my last Fuji, and this one seems to meet all of my criteria at a price point that I can accept.

I was cross shopping that with the Panasonic Lumix FZ20 which is a 5MP and 12x opt zoom. So do you like your Fuji? I didn't like the controls on the Panasonic, getting to the zoom required some hand contortions. I'm still trying to decide which to get for my upcoming trip to Hawaii in a couple months...

All the buttons seem comfortably laid out to me. It's the same basic shape as my old one, but I went to Best Buy on sunday and checked out the display model. The zoom on the Fuji is just a little bit left of where your thumb rests when holding the camera. I would still like even more optical zoom, so I'll probably end up getting a 2X telephoto. I also like the fact that on this newer version, they put in some shortcuts for different scene types and such. It seems well thought out.

I think maybe you have me confused with someone else?

Take some pics, and post them.

I haven't actually bought it yet, but will later this week unless someone has any compelling reasons against it (like a hot deal on a Canon or another camera that will fill my needs, or some sort of horror story about their Fuji).

Crap, that reminds me, I didn't get around to ordering my A75 today. Crap. The officemax site doesn't list it, but I think you can phone order it, so I'm

You might want to look into the Canon S1 Pro IS. Similar, but has image stabilization....check it out on steve's and the imaging resource.

You know, this may be taken as fanboyism but I've never been satisfied with Fuji optics. The S_000 line was a huge letdown to me, but maybe the S_100 line will be better.

Can you post some pictures and let us take a gander? You can use the link in my sig if you want a free gallery.

All of the pictures in my gallery were taken with a Fuji S3800. I don't have one of the S5100s in my hands yet, but maybe jadinolf will be kind enough to return to the thread to post some.

I have an s602zoom, which is a precursor to that camera by a few models. I'm happy with it, it takes good photos. The macro mode is awesome, the only real complaint is some of the features require holding down one button while you hit another (the self-timer comes to mind).

I also like the manual controls, it's just about fully manual, that's kind of hard to get in a non DSLR sometimes.

Did Fuji do away with their cameras that up-converted images to a higher megapixel count? Mine has a 6mp mode that goes from 3-->6 , I've never really used it because the 6mp shots aren't as good as true 6mp shots. I know they had it on the next generation of the cameras, maybe they dropped it.

From what I have read, they did indeed drop that. It was apparently a feature of their custom Super CCD, which used a hexagonal sensor structure instead of the normal shape, and that's why it was able to interpolate the image to a higher resolution. I'm not 100% sure on any of this, but that's how it is AFAIK.

Gee, I'm just playing with it right now. Haven't even set everything up because I have been busy. All I have are a couple hundred pictures of my GF Tiffany nekkid.

I'll get back to you.

Well, if that's all you've got, I suppose we can just look at pics of your GF in the nude to judge the merits of the camera ;)
