ordered and paid on 1/3/07, they finally sent me a shipping confirmation email on 1/8/08 and it says that my item is set to arrive on 1/14/08.

this is what the status says on amazon:
Date Time Location Event Details
January 7, 2008 --- US Carrier notified to pick up package

and it's said that since yesterday so that means its still not picked up by USPS

damn i want my headphones already. i should paid the extra $5 from newegg and woulda had them by now.

If you don't pay for expedited shipping on Amazon (IOW, you opt for the free shipping) you can wait a long time for it to go out the door and then you get slow boat shipping on top of it. It should be better now that the holidays are past.

USPS? If you want something in hurry and you want to track it accurately, use UPS or FedEx. USPS is known for having inaccurate tracking (showing arrived two days after, etc). Cheap shipping or fast shipping. Pick one.

Enjoy your headphones when you get them, I got the hd 555 for Christmas and they are awesome when I turn up the bass on my computer, sound like I have a sub playing, they don't crank infinitely though, too much bass makes them start to crackle, but they can take a lot.

Yup as others pointed out free shipping on Amazon usually means they take their sweet time processing your order. :)

Wow, these HD555's are comfortable. Now I just need to find a case for them to keep the pets away.

just got the HD555's today. still disappointed with Amazon's time to ship out the product. will definitely hesitate to order from them again (this isn't the first time, i've been more forgiving in the past.)

i've heard that these headphones require a burn-in time. what does that do? how do u do it? and how long does it normally take?

they work fine on my onkyo 605 receiver, audigy2zs, and laptop.

kind of disappointed at the max volume on it (at least on my PC) i've maxed out my windows sound, and my music players' sound and expected them to be louder. currently i'm listening at 100% Windows XP volume, and about 85% itunes volume and am comfortable at that.

oh and if i continue to max out XP's AND itunes' sound, i would hear clicking on the HD555's. i dont think theres anything wrong with them, probably just can't handle the volume

Distortion causing overdriving - careful, could burn them out. You'll need a real headphone amp for those so you aren't overdriving your line outs...

Bingo, your sound card is probably not designed for high impedance loads. Definitely either invest in a card that is....or buy an external amp.

Actually, the 555s are only 50 Ohms which is kind of low to be driven by a line out circuit. Besides, what is the OP doing with audiophile headphones when he is tolerant of such levels of distortion? Better get a hearing test - may be going deaf...

well its really not THAT loud (@ 100% max levels). i mean i will not be playing music or games at those levels but i guess i was just expecting something real loud.

again my comfortable level is @ 100% XP/Audigy2ZS & @85% itunes level (is this a good level to playthe headphones for 100 hours to burn them in?)

what card would support that and what specifications would i be looking for?

and what is a good external amp (bang for the buck)

I bought the HD555's on the morning of the 10th, and I did a lot of research about them that day. Recommended burn in was between 70 - 100 hours of medium volume music with bass, "to relax the magnets". (I can find the links if you wish--that's just what they said). I have the headphones plugged into my Logitech speakers (some 5.1 set, not sure which), as it has a headphone port on the volume control. In Windows, I have my wave volume @ 50%, my overall volume @ 3/7, and my speaker volume @ 50%. I haven't noticed any discernible different in quality in plugging them into the volume control connection vs. the sound card directly, so it works out well. if the speakers aren't loud enough, definitely consider the source.

FMC,

Well, there is no headphone amp in the Logi control box, so it's coming right off the line out.

Louisss,
Well, if your electronics are distorting like they are if your headphones are being driven to the stops (the clicking sound) then it should be audible and irritating to those with good hearing. Such levels of distortion can burn out speaker windings. So, IMO, it's time for a hearing test. In the meanwhile make sure the slider for the source of the sound you are listening to is at a reasonable level (usually not much over 75% should be plenty) and the overall volume slider shouldn't be much more unless you are going deaf. Lots of walkman/MP3 player people are going deaf from long periods of listening at excessive volumes thru headphones.

what sound card (if any) would make the HD55's sound better than paired with an Audigy 2 ZS?

I'm not quite understanding where the hearing test comes in.

Are you trying to say that since he has his volume at 100% max and itunes at 85% that he at that volume he should be hearing an annoying clicking sound?

I think that really depends on the hardware you are using them with, just because he's at 100 percent does not mean there SHOULD be clicking, if you mean something else please explain because it feels like you're leaving something out in your explanation of why he should get a hearing test.

I can't speak for Zepper, but I believe he is saying that if he needs to raise the volume to 100%, he should have a hearing test. And the clicking is distortion caused by raising the volume that high. That's how I'm understanding it anyway.

The HD555's are a great pair of headphones and quite comfortable to boot. On the topic of Amazon/USPS shipping and tracking, USPS doesn't normally do tracking updates from my experience. It goes straight from picked up to dropped off and nothing in between.

Regarding the volume, whoever is listening with all volumes set at max really should get a hearing test done.

You have a ZS Platinum in your sig. I thought those came with the front panel headphone jack?
