So I ordered a Camera from Dell and then emailed them to cancel the order, was told it would be cancelled...

So I was told my order was submittted for cancellation and I'd see a refund in 2-3 days (as told on June 2nd). Camera comes out of the blue today the 6th. Should I risk opening the shipping box to inspect what arrived or just hold off and ship it back?

Update: This morning I go online to check my bankstatement and the pending charge of 575 is gone without me sending anything back, what should I do at this point? I am a bit worried that while I'm out of the country for a month that they might charge me for something and leave me closer to broke, but I don't want to pay shipping back.

Call and tell them they done messed up and you don't want it, demand a refund and the return shipping cost since they said they'd cancel it and not ship it to you, and send it back.

See if you were charged. If you weren't, be happy, cause you just got a free camera. If you were, send it back.

That depends, do you want the digital camera you ordered at the price you paid?

If your answer is
YES - Open it and inspect it.

NO - You wanted your order cancelled. DO NOT OPEN THE BOX! Do a return to sender, there is no cost to you. Call Dell and let them know the package is on it's way back. You should receive a refund in about 2 weeks.

I want the camera, but ordered from another place when Dell couldnt promise me delivery by the date I needed.
My debit card has been billed already, but they said they were processing a refund and cancelling an order before it even shipped.

You'll be suprised with Dell. I've been trying to return LCD to them for almost two months now. Meantime, I was never billed

I had this happen to me in January...

Dell is awfully slow or something, and they did charge my credit card... but instead i just refused the shipment and got my money refunded~

Don't open the package and refuse - return to sender.

Wait for your refund.

In the future:
1) Dell's inventory system is NOT accurate by any means.
2) Use a credit card instead of a debit card.

So the refund came without notice today in my bank account...hmmm

You are playing with fire good sir.

No, I am just very confused. They said they would refund me if I sent it back, but refunded me anyways. The worst part is that since it is a two camera order with a more expensive camera backordered so if not refunded they prolly keep the entire cost of the order on my debit and out of my bank account.
Either way they are horrible for not cancelling the order like they said they would before the camera shipped.

this happens all the time, there are 1000's of threads about cancelling orders but stuff shows up

lesson learned: you can't cancel an order, so don't try

so, if the dell inventory system catches, what should he do then, repackage the camera and send it back.

I won a CC dispute w/ Dell. I think they got the short end of the stick in the process, so I tried to give them money for the computer. However, I was transferred around 3 different times, and nobody could figure out what I was doing. Thusly, I kept the computer for my troubles.

Just keep it, they have no clue. If you try and return it, they might never say you did. They are so messed up it's not even worth trying to deal with them anymore.
