Ok, so I have been playing with my 360 for a few years, love it. Got my son a Wii, hate it, he loves it. Bought a cheap PC BR player last year of of the egg for 60 bucks, been using an external SATA 2 USB connection to my laptop and was using the laptops output to my HDTV, not the best solution but the cheapest. Well, I decided to go with a standalone BR player, like 150 or less, and every single one of them just has so many issues according to the thousands of reviews I read. So I decided to get a PS3 Slim 250gb model and it just arrived. Now I know I dont have to worry about BR playback as this is probably the best BR player for the price. I really cant see any games I would buy for it that isnt on the 360. Soo....other than playing movies on this, what can i do with my new PS3? I am not opposed to gaming on it, so, if there are any kickass PS3 exclusives please let me know. I do plan on getting any FF games so I guess that another good reason. I know the new slims dont do other OS anymore. Any and all info on what I can do with this other than stated above would be appreciated. Thanks!

i had the same plan with my PS3 when i bought it for exclusive only since i already got XBL subscription so im not gonna play much on it.

got a few exclusives (fat princess, flower, warhack, resistance, uncharted, etc), but almost don't spend time on it anymore, and i still haven't started resistance and uncharted... thing's just sitting there to collect dust, last time i turned it on the controller's out of battery...

i hope that doesn't happen to u.

Uncharted is a must I'd say, both of those games were great.
Resistance was pretty fun as well, I would rent those and not buy them though.
Killzone 2 was pretty cool as well, I would rent it unless you're going to play MP.
Demon's Souls is pretty cool too, but more of a niche game so I'd definitely rent that one before buying.
Heavenly Sword was fun, but definitely too short to buy.
Tekken 6 is supposed to be really good I hear, I haven't had time to try it out but if you're a fighting game fan I would check it out.

Umm I can't remember any more right now, and Uncharted 1 and 2 are definitely at the top of the list of exclusives I'd say, both games were really fun.

Your definition of kickass may vary, but LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted 2, and assorted Ratchet and Clank fit mine.

well considering there are only 2 "next gen" consoles, you just got the second.

:p

as for the PS3, i mainly play PS3 single player exclusives on it. my multiplayer is all done on 360 pretty much (other than some uncharted 2).

that said i recommend the following franchises.

Ratchet and Clank
Uncharted
God of War (just got the collection and it owns so hard)
Resistance
Hot Shots Golf (best golf series ever)

I play uncharted 2 and hot shots golf online, but the other games are all single player. wish the 360 had some good single player action/adventure games like the PS3 does. but any multiplatform game i will get on 360.

Why are any of these consoles called "next gen" anymore anyway? As soon as they were released to retail (years ago) they became "current gen", and by now they are "half-past gen" in terms of hardware technology.

Because playing games from 2001 with a higher resolution and a higher sequel number next to the name is what constitutes next gen gaming.

The Wii is a lot closer to a "next gen" experience than any of the other consoles considering it is the only one that does something that wasn't done before. It's the console that Sony and Microsoft are trying to copy, and it's the only console that does stuff you can't do on the PC.

Go to www.gamerankings.com. You can look at the top rated games for the PS3, figure out what sounds interesting/is exclusive. You could probably even do a Google search for best PS3 exclusives.

1. People need to stop continuing to use the phrase "next gen" years after the consoles have come out.

2. The Wii has made revolutions in gaming, but personally I think these trends are more harmful than helpful to quality gaming. This is indicated by the deficiency of quality titles on the Wii as well as the utter lack of any game to use the Wiimote in an innovative and effective manner.

3. Nintendo has copied as much from Microsoft and Sony as they have from Nintendo.

All of the best Wii games make minimal use of the Wiimote, and in every game I have played (which is a lot) the motion controls were more of a nuisance than an acceptable gameplay mechanic (that includes Zack and Wiki).

The Wiimote has been used in very innovative ways. There are VERY few games that actually use it well cus there's so much crap out there and I hate motion controls on any game.

Uncharted 1 & 2, inFamous, MLB-series. Great PS3 exclusives. Little Big Planet is also surprisingly fun and your kid(s) would probably enjoy it too.

I agree to a certain extent. There are many examples of garbage Wiimote games(and because they are the vast majority, people tend to think there are no good Wiimote games), but that is a fault of half-assed game developers and not the platform. Some games make fantastic use of the technology. Okami is the best example of proper use of the Wiimote and it's not even a Wii exclusive. Galaxy's use is subtle, but it adds to the game without getting in the way. Metroid Prime Trilogy makes extensive use of the Wiimote for aiming and it works great. The Pikmin remake on the Wii is good enough to where it plays like a PC RTS with the Wiimote. The Wii version of Resident Evil 4 works just as good as playing it on the PC with a mouse. Zelda TP's waggle attack isn't really anything special(it seems to be what people talk about when they talk about a useless Wiimote implementation), but the flying portion of the game, the fishing portion, and the bow & arrow is amazingly well done with the Wiimote.

The PS2 controls for Okami played nicer than the Wii controls, and the brush strokes in the PS2 version even registered better.

I didn't mind the use of waggle in Galaxy, but it isn't exactly an example of prime motion-control usage, as the motion controls are just used in stead of a button and don't immerse the player deeper into the game.

As far as TP, every motion-control part felt tacked on, and that is probably because it most likely was, with TP being developed for GC.

The Wiimote has faired best (for me) in shooters like MP3 and RE4 (although it really only shined in RE4 due to the wiimote setup removing a lot of the typical restrictive RE control setup), due to it feeling more natural to point and shoot rather than move a joystick. However, I still haven't seen it add real immersion, and point-and-click is only marginally better than dual-joystick controls and still inferior to mouse controls.

I am just simply disappointed with both the Wii and Wiimote, most likely due to expectations set by the better and more successful DS.

I'm not sure what you qualify as innovative or effective if that statement is intended to include Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. Video game controls which mimic actual motion are by definition innovative in a field which has traditionally received its input through controller sticks and buttons. And given the fidelity of the game response corresponding to the actual motions (most specifically, I'm thinking about the Wii Sports Resort Table Tennis mode, although it applies to several of the other modes as well), there are games which are arguably effective as well.

I get that a lot of people don't see the Wii as a compelling single-player gaming platform. To an extent, I agree with this given the shortness of its bench of A-list titles, and note that I devote less time to gaming on the Wii than other platforms. But it is an unparalleled (local) party gaming system, it has clearly increased gaming appeal beyond the stereotypical shooter (or other genre of your choice) gamer, and its popularity has created an incentive for game developers to experiment outside the genres which have traditionally dominated gaming. I don't get how any of these things are detrimental to the gaming industry, unless you mean that it's going to mean the additional creation of games that you personally don't enjoy playing.

PS3 is great and has some great exclusives but if you pick up Little Big Planet be prepared for the most overhyped game this gen.

guess im the opposite... I owneds 360 and PS3...
play everything on PS3.
bought the 360 simply because ace combat 6 was an exclusive. I'd rather buy an extra game per year than pay for XBL, something IMO which should be free.

Comparing titles side by side, the PS3 controls feel much more intuitive and tighter. the graphics are equivolent, and thus my 360 is largely an oversized paperweight.

Don't feel bad, it's OK to be wrong.

Or if you have DX10 video card or better in your pc they're "last gen".

I kid, but I thought about this. I guess it stems from past consoles that were 8bit, 16bit, 32bit, 64bit, and then you had PS2.

You believe what you just said? The Wii is not high definition. Typically console games are rated by generation because of the increase in graphical fidelity. The Wii is a gamecube with a stupid controller that half works most of the time how you want it to.

Too true. Also, notice how many non-gamers are buying the Wii and buying like 1 game and nothing else. What is that telling the industry? To me it says that people won't buy a game that takes 100 hours to finish because they're too casual now. I don't like it.

anyone ever think about how long it'll take before someone makes a game that uses the PS3 controller to function similar to a Wii. I know it can be done. Oh and one final thought, how long until we see adult oriented games for the Wii using the wiimote in an "innovative" manner? Anyone?
