So I need to retrieve some files

See title. Machines had old Win2K partitions cleared, "quick" NTFS format done from XP CD, and XP installed. A number of apps & updates applied. What software could possible retrieve these files? TIA
 
You are in deep doo doo.

The repartition didn't kill you, but the quick format hurt and the new data being written is probably the nail in your coffin.

google for some utilities, but a recovery service like Ontrack is probably your best bet.
 
best program I found when my maxtor hdd died was ACR software recovery

it was the only program to find anything and be able to retrieve data
