RossMan, that would be cool but IF my problem resides in domain name resolution speed, it probably wouldn't make a difference if I forwarded my domain name to your name servers since the registrant (1and1.com) is slow. Am I right in making that assumption?

No, you are making a wrong assumption. As long as the domain points to the correct nameservers, the rest has to do with your isp, nothing will go through 1and1 unless you are using their nameservers.

<20ms responce to start loading content after click, if that's realistic. Right now on my 1and1.com shared account, it feels like >5000ms and my pop servers don't even respond sometimes. What a POS.

My current site is http://www.maggotcontrol.com

While file transfers once initiated is very fast, the initial responce time after clicking on it or loading the site itself is unacceptable to me. I don't know if this has to do with DNS resolution or simply bogged down servers but I like my sites to 'snap' immediately into place. I don't care if people can download at 2mbps but I want faster responce times.

I thuthfully don't see anything wrong with that resposne time. The site is loading very quickly, just like it would on Ross' account. He may hate 1and1, but there won't be a noticible speed difference, that site is running just fine.

I'd have to venture to say that its your connection. When you run a ping to that domain name what speed do you get?

Do you pay for your 1and1 account?

Since I'm not exactly web tech savvy, excuse my ignorance..

So what you're saying is that if I point my domain name to Ross's name server, I am essentially completely bypassing 1and1 altogether and virtually registering my name with him? That would be cool.

As far as my ISP's performance, some sites are fast and some are not and I've heard from recent threads that RR has been having DNS problems lately but my issues have been an ongoing problems since the get go.

Pings around 10ms actually. Maybe it's my hosting server afterall?

Yea....I also have their 6 month free thing but don't use it much. I have their $10/month linux shared hosting service.

Very strange, I'm sure if you contacted their support explaining your 'slowness' they would try to figure out what's wrong.

In order to use us for email you need to point the domain to your nameservers. If that is done then the whole domain will point to us, how would you plan on hosting the main page somewhere else?

Thx for reply. That's what I wanted to verify. Is there anyway to have email hosting without moving the web hosting. If we didnt move the hosting, would we get xxx@telnaphosting.com for example? Or is the Email hosting just an add-on service to required webhosting service. Thx

Highly doubt it. If you can download fast then the connection should be theoretically opening just as fast. I find it hard to believe that 1and1 has apache set up for slow loading connections. I just asked 10 people on aim how your site was, they all said it loads very quickly. I'd still have my bet on your computer or your isp.

I thought I answered that in another thread, but I dont want to interfere with this thread, so I'll clean up my PM messages an pm you in a second.

Cool, I wanted to talk to you in PM's anyway 😉

That's so odd. Some sites are really fast and some not. I just did a series of 10 count pings to my site and actually found a few dropped packets averaging about 20% loss. WTF is up!

Run 'ping -t maggotcontrol.com' and copy about 20 lines here, and also run 'tracert maggotcontrol.com' and paste that. I'm guessing something between you and the site.

If you instruct your domain registrar to use my DNS name servers, you're not registering anything. You still own the domain you're just telling the worldwide DNS name servers where the domain is hosted (on my SonataWeb account).

Can you PM me with your AIM/email?

Tracing doesn't go for each one imemdiately after the previous one so it does take some time. Those actually look fine so now I'm thinking it could actually be your computer --- but it is not 1and1 😉

Thats about as much as I can tell you from here, but ask some friends, both from the area and farther away, how does it load for them?

RossMAN, the 1and1 hater, even admitted that your site loads fine 😀
"21:03] MelloRoss: what is his site URL?
[21:03] DeviousTrap: http://www.maggotcontrol.com/
[21:04] MelloRoss: yeah loads just fine, I still think he should leave 1and1 just for the hell of it 🙂"

LOL

A subdomain is a folder name thats basically replaces where the www is when you type in the domain. www is actually a subdomain of google.com

For example http://anandtech.com is a domain name, in http://forums.anandtech.com forums is the subdomain.
