So, I need a pocket translator...

I'm studying abroad in Japan and while my Japanese isnt highly limited...i'm still a first year student and dont know enough vocab or sentence structure to get me by (at least to my likings). So i wanted to purchase a pocket translator. Ive seen lots but they all seem to be quite costly. Plus i dont really know what makes one better than the other...so...if you have used a translator before, please reccomend me one.

Also, i have a cell phone that runs windows mobile 5.0 and i'm sure there are some good apps i could get for it, so if you know of any, please tell.

Last but not least, my phone also has GPS...so if you know of any mapping software for Japan...that would be great...

I carried one when I went to visit family, but it really didn't help me. If you're living with other students, most of them learned english from grade 8 - up and they will be your best translator. As for a pocket translator, I'm not so sure D:
