you shouldn't pay a dime. the ignorant bitch should've been taking care of her kitten/baby (not cat, but kitten; not an adult, but a baby) instead of chatting it up with her friends.

Looks like the OP has convinced himself his 'sprained ankle' is actually 'broken' over the course of several paragraphs too

If you are friends, and you knew the kitten was around, of course she would have reasonably expected people to look out for it and take lots of care. We have friends around, and they're great with the kitten, i wouldn't have a large house party with her of course tho...

Bottom line. Kittens are not invisible, so if you'd actually been looking out for it (and you should have been), you wouldn't have killed it. There's no way you can offload the majority of the responsibility of it's death on her

EDIT: on reading that she brought it with her, that's ****** stupid, but it certainly doesn't make you any less responsible for killing it.

I hope she is talking most of the blame for this. Stupid thinking probably cost this innocent kitten its life.
A group of strangers is one thing, but I certainly would expect more out of people I know. Two of my friends have had tiny puppies in the last year, and they were always running around when we were hanging out. The courtesy to be very careful where you step is understood.

Grown up people + beer + little kitten = disaster

The owner of the kitten should have realized this and not brought the kitten. Expecting a room full of drinking adults to tiptoe around a house at a party is more than this girl should have expected.

Even if it were her own house... the kitten should have been put in another room.

this was just poor judgement on the part of the girl and i wonder if being a showoff and the center of attention was reason behind it. Which sucks for the kitten.

I thought you were an intelligent woman and then you post that drivel.

Obviously she wants another toy she can carry around and show off to people... she got tired of holding it and decided to let it run loose around a group of big drunk things that could kill it very easily on accident....

Is she a friend or an enemy? If she's an enemy, you're dealing with it just fine -- bring it up on a public forum and ask for a bunch of opinions, and get the best options for putting the blame back on her. If she's a friend, then talk to her in person, apologize sincerely for being careless, and figure out how to distribute the blame and whatever remedies possible among yourselves.

How is that drivel? What reasons can you think of that would make a girl take a little kitten to an adult party where there is booze?

I come up with stupidity or wanting to be the center of attention.

Maybe she just couldn't find a babysitter...

Hmm, somehow i read that as you talking about the kitten

*profusely apologises to KM*

The way i see this, if someone through apalling judgement brought a baby to party & you trod on it & killed it, you'd be up for manslaughter at the least, despite the mother's complete lack of judgement. Her stupidity doesn't cancel out the OP's responsibility for the death of his friend's kitten...

Point her to the nearest animal shelter.
You never should have given her permission to let it wander though, I'm sure it would have peed on something.

The worst that happens is she sues you and the judge has a little common sence and sees that she's irresponsible.

Update: Clover is dead :disgust:. The girl just sent me a fax with a picture of the kitten and a message generously strewn with obscenities. I think she is going crazy.

Hopefully the stupid bitch goes a bit too far and has a heart attack. There's no reason for her to be pissed at you.

BS BS BS BS BS

don't agree at all with that statement. so if someone brought their baby to disneyland, left the baby unattended, baby happens to wander into the spinning teacup attraction and gets run over, disneyland is liable?

Could you twist the scenario anymore? This is a party at his house, with his friends...a reasonable degree of care would of call be expected of everyone there, and that would inculde taking extra special care when moving about given teh knowledge they all had that the kitten was there...

In the case you mention, in this day and age i suspect Disney would be sued, and would be very likely to be held liable depending on the circumstances..

Why should they? The cat isn't their property. If she doesn't want her property to be damaged, she shouldn't leave it in the middle of a fucking staircase.

pay her? for what? i've had to PAY other people to get the fvck rid of kittens. People dont buy kittens. Christ, you broke your fvcking ankle. Tell her you'll pay the vet bill if she'll pay your hospital bill. Otherwise, screw her, she should have been watching the damn thing, even if you said it could roam about.
