So I may be in a market for a new car...

To prevent me from missing any good cars or bad cars, i want to get some votes to see what I should potentially see.

Also since I've not done the car buying thing in ages what teh best way to do it? Pre-approval, dealer incentives. How about haggling over fax/email and setting a price. The car I want needs to be relatively fuel efficient, though I am siding towards the Honda Civic Hybrid with Navigation and added foglights (perhaps) and added bass system speakers (is it worth it?)

But i do not want to rule out other cars. I was suggest the Mazda 3. Also suggested 2008 focus, mercury milan I4 premium or the v6 premium. I really dont need the navigation portion cause I have a portable add on navigation unit and those things are cheaper.

Ideally I would like all the features that my present car does not have in order of need:

Good gas mileage 29mpg + (my focus gives between 29-32mpg)
Power windows & door locks
Cruise control
ABS / TCS / DSC
Good powerful sound system (stock) that reads MP3's and perhaps Ipod connectivity.
Leather + Heated Seats
Moonroof
Microsoft SYNC - need to test it to see if its worth it.

Also need good handling issues.

So to test drive cars, whats teh best way to get the damn dealer to let you test drive in peace without the sales person interfering. I would like to take it up a curvy road or something to see how it handles and not up the freeway ramp and down again on teh streets. Its not a test drive.

bring too many people along for the sales person to get in the car too.

or just find one that doesn't ride along.

What does Vannie want?

<----Runs and hides 😀

Buy the Civic hybrid, you'll hate yourself if you buy anything else, every time gas goes up you'll be pissed.

Unless you want to do a stopgap car till the plug in hybrids are available, in that case buy a conventional Civic or a new Focus.

lol vanny is not in the equation.. so its not her decision making anycase. She can buy her own car. Though we keep in contact, she is also in the market for a new car. Hers is a 93 caviler

Who needs Sync. I'm so rich I hire someone to sit in my car and press buttons for me! Sync can't scratch my behind.

Aside from the 2008 Jetta 2.0T DSG Wolfsburg edition for 22k, I can't think of anything else that would fit the criteria. Good gas mileage, fun to drive, and under 25k is tough.

If you don't mind used one, Acura TSX would do the job. (Fine mpg, which claims to be close to 30 mpg if you drive moderately, all power, cruice control, all sort of stability control, fine audio system, leather + heated seats, and moonroof)
