When I was living in South America as a kid I can remember losing power for no less than a week at one point, and that also meant no hot water. *shudder* A week of cold showers is NOT fun.

Read read read read read when the power's out. Or go somewhere where there's power. In college whenever the power went out we used to drink ourselves silly--it usually meant (if it was due to a nasty snowstorm) that classes would be cancelled in the morning, or at the very least assignments wouldn't be due. Kinda hard to finish your paper without a functional computer.

Reading a book would be my first choice. Can just use a flashlight or candles to see.

I'd have about 2 hours on my laptop battery and since my router is plugged into a UPS I could probably be online for the entire time so long as my desktop computer wasn't turned on.

I lost power once for an entire day. This was a few years ago though, something happened to one of those power boxes (all our power lines are underground). Just our street was affected. It sucked for me because I was stuck inside anyway due to an injury from the day before (took a surfboard in the mouth, split my lip wide open). I had stitches and my bottom lip was all swollen, I looked like hell for a couple days.
