And I went to the VW stealership and it will cost me $28 to get a new one. The thing is, they didn't have any of the one I needed.

They had their kit of all the different kinds, found the one that fit mine, went to get it from the back, but the key was missing (comes with a new lug nut and a key).

So i'm wondering, do any other places but the dealerships sell these things? $30 seems like a lot for a damn key. He gave me the part # and everything and I was going to try and check another dealership, but I won't be able to until the weekend cause they have whack ass hours at those parts places.

i've tried vwvortex as well but the forums seem to be down.

any help is appreciated.

is it a VW wheel lock or something like a McGard wheel lock? I guessing a VW wheel lock since they gave you a part #. Might wanna try VW stores like germanautoparts.com, ecstuning.com, parts4vws.com, vwgenuineparts.com, namotorsports.net, etc

on my wheels they each require 5 lugnuts. on each wheel, there is 1 wheel lock that needs a "key" that i have to put in it in order to use the wrench to get that lugnut off.

it's that little piece that i need. these are the lugnuts that came w/the car stock. i'm not sure if its a VW only part or something that I could find at another place.

I know what you mean but I dunno if you have a VW made lug/key or some other brand. Im guessing your lug/key is made by VW since they had a key there that fit your locking lug. You have three options - either buy that key that fits from VW. Or get some bolt removers that fit over a 17mm bolt from Sears, hammer in the remover, then remove the lug. Or take ur car to a shop where they can weld in a hex bolt on top of the locking lug and remove the lug for you. The last two options will render the locking lug useless and you will have to get 4 new wheel locks to replace them. They will probably also damage your wheel (if you miss and hammer the wheel in option two/burn marks on wheel in option 3).

When the face of my wheel lock broke off, I had no option but to go with option three.

The keys aren't cheap. I think I paid something like 25-30 dollars to get mine replaced and this was directly from the company that made the lock/key. Just provided them the key number and they sent me a new one.

Bah, I hate my wheel locks. I keep forgetting to swap them off when I take my tires off... I can't remember where I put the original lugs... Dealer had the keys already on the car, and gave me the originals... but I forget where they are.

Just take the car to a good mechanic. When I lost my key and got a flat tire I took the car to my mechanic and he got them off; didn't even charge me. Stupid things.

Get an impact socket slightly larger than the outside of the locknut, tap in place and remove. I saw a man do this on the side of the road in Ocho Rios and was impressed. :)

You're lucky, i had to pay £30 (~$60) for mine! Its something you're only going to be able to get from the dealer, i'm sure you can see why..

I had to bring in my vehicle registration documents aswell.

Might as well take it to a tire shop and get 4 new wheel locks + a new key put on for the same price as the key.

Yeah, before I took it my my local mechanic I went to Autozone and that's what the guy tried to do. He effed up the socket without being able to get the nut off.
