I was arrested in my driveway...

I had 4 beers, from 6pm to about midnight...

Had my receipt....blew a .168 somehow. Was able to do the roadside, said the alphabet backwards 3 times and the cop wrote corrections that were wrong on the repetition.

In my DUI 'class' I had a guy that had spent $200k to save his paid off exotic that was repossessed due to him washing it while drunk.

In a few classes of 30 or so, and later in a group of about 500, no one had killed or hurt anyone.

My arrest was due to a ex-g/f having a cop waiting to harass me in our driveway...during that day moving out, I ran into a shelf and busted the whole inside of my lower lip...

Now to defend this charge would have meant not driving for about 1 year, maybe 18 months+ depending on the court docket (I live in Palm Beach, it's at least 6 months to any criminal trial). Then I'd have to hire 'experts', $2k to 10k is the going rate a day, ++Room and board, then you have to realise they have to be present at each 'hearing'....

I paid about $6k out and didn't drive 3 months, that was easier for me. Many don't have that luxury.
But as one of the geeks here, you are excuses as clueless.

I drove for like 6 months when my learners permit expired. I wouldn't worry too much. Just drive well.

I hope she's not living in your house. Cause if she were, I would have kicked her out.

I hope to God that your testicles are rendered useless, thus negating your ability to reproduce.

I think its more of the fact that the dude is an asshole. Stern punishment is necessary but kicking your kid out of the house for that is absurd.

Wow Holy Crap! 53 Replies in 1 day...is that a record??? :p

Well thanks for all your suggestions everyone (Yes, I read every single one of them).

From reading all the replies I have concluded with the following:

- Anyone who suggested that i rent near to work i think you should get a 9/10 cause thats a pretty kewl idea! I think it would be fun and exciting to move out of home for a while.

- As for the people who thought that i was an idiot for speeding and that you should never speed - YOU ARE A BUNCH of LOSERS!!!....lol. Get a life - You need to have fun sometime in your life.

- For the people that suggested that i get a lawyer and take the issue to court - I dont really see the point, the cost involved in getting a laywer and missing out on 1 days pay would probably be more expensive that renting a place for the 3 months (yes, im exhagerating a bit here ;) ).

- The idea of driving my sexy Torana (Yes i am an Aussie (Australian for those of you who dont know the term)) sounds tempting, especially hearing the roar of my baby when i start her up in the morning. However, I think it is a bit risky and I think 3 months i already WAY too long without a license.

- As for the conditional license - :( We dont have them here. I rang up the Roads & Traffics Authority and they said there are no exemptions or ways out.

So I guess its going to have to be the rent option.

Please feel free to continue the later argument or to make any further suggestions.

Regards,

Slick

If you lose your license it's for a reason. Get that through your thick skull before you kill someone.

You will get a chance to appeal in court. Once the day comes you explain how important your licence is for your mode of transportation to and from work.

The judge will explain a licence is a privilege and not a right, yada yada yada, slap on the wrist, you get to keep driving.

Seriously... that?s how it works. (I?m an Aussie.)

Of course it can. Let's just hope you're the only one who dies if you choose to be reckless.

Ha ha, Speed only kills if you are inexperienced. Otherwise, put the pedal to the medal!

How is he "clearly not safe" behind the wheel?

Can't you get a work driving permit? They usually do that when you lose your license so you can at least go to work every day.

Seriously.
If you're going to be broke for 3 months renting, well, sell one of your cars.

QFT.

And FWIW 54 in a 30 is stupid. Slow down in residential areas. :|

And obviously, you're inexperienced since you got busted and will (hopefully) lose your license. If you're living at home, you're not old enough to claim 'experience', which is bogus anyway. A Sh!tty driver that thinks he is hot sh!t behind the wheel is all you are. :|

sometimes they will let you retain your lisence for the conditions of driving to work and getting groceries. You need to show them that you have no other way of getting to work.

eta: if you are ever pulled over with one of these liscences and you are not on your way to work it will get taken away.

A lot of times ( well maybe sometimes) you can get a provisional license that allows you to drive ONLY to work and back. I mean they figure you are going to do it anyway. basically if the bust you out driving and you cant prove you were going to/from work (within regualt business hours) then they fine you big time.

That leaves me with 2 options:

Drive my other car (my sexy Holden Torana) to work without a valid license and risk having to face the consiquences if being caugth.

OR

Rent a place in the suburb where my work is and be broke basically for at least 3 months.
Also this will be my first time living away from home (yes i still am living at home) so it will be a bit freaky.

What do you think I should do?

Thanks all :)

I've recently been fined 700.00 for speeding at 80 on a 45 mph zone. Do yourself a favor and appeal it. If you are convincing enough, they may lessen the repercussions or better yet drop them completely.

Build a time machine, go back and educate your younger self why speeding is stupid, for more reasons than losing a license. Sure it will create a paradox since if you don't speed you won't go back in time to stop yourself from speeding, but I think the spacetime continuum will forgive ignorant people.

I said nothing ignorant, so get your little angry face off my forums.

sixone, yea, I got a DUI, that involved no injuries, and you ARE an idiot if you think the op is 'clearly not safe behind the wheel' for a simple speeding offense. You can say what you will about my situation, it has nothing to do with the fact that you are an absolute, 100% moron if you think someone is unsafe behind the wheel for getting a speeding ticket.
