So I like Avatar The Last Airbender?

In my search for shows my 2 and 4 year olds would enjoy and I could stand to watch too, I checked out Avatar expecting the typical nonsensical Japanese dubbed garbage that inundates most networks but was floored. The first episode I watched was about the four main good guys trying to stop this huge drill from getting through the wall of a city, but the cinematopraphy of this episode was amazing. After that I did a little reading and it turns out the show is conceptualized and developed here in America and animated overseas.....which explains why the humor works and the themes are kind of vaguely westernized eastern cultural.

Anyway, it caught me off guard and has proven to be a show the writers have put a lot of time and effort into to make it not such a meandering mess as most shows. Worth checking out imo.

Yeah, my wife's 8-year old cousin came over to visit and we ended up watching it. I was surprised as well at how good it is. I ended up Tivo-ing all the eps and it is one of my son's favorite shows now. It is right up there with Justice League IMHO (incidentally, they share the same voice director).

Nickelodeon spends a ton of money on every episode and it shows in the quality of the voice cast, the animation, etc.

Yeah, Avatar is an amazing cartoon. Definately recommend checking out the season dvd's. That episode was one of the mid-season two episodes, and it really steps it up from there. Awesome show, and one I highly endorse :)

Yeah, that's the only cartoon I watch.

I need to get the DVDs though, cause I haven't seen all of the episodes.

Avatar is definitely one of the best produced cartoons I've seen. Only Justice League surpasses it IMO. Props to Nick. Nice to see some quality again from the drab they've sank into for the past 6-7 years.

Yeah I'm a big fan of Avatar as well and have the Season 1 discs. The only bad part is Season 2 isnt coming out until August or September and Season 3 episodes are starting soon.

It's funny, I am in the exact same situation with my 2 & 4 yr olds. I found Avatar, one day, and now I'm hooked. Sometimes I catch myself watching it when they aren't even around. I feel kinda geeky for a 34yr old, but whatever.

FYI,

I believe that someone has gotten the rights to Avatar, with the plan of creating motion picture(s). I googled it, and found out it is M. Night Shyamalan

Pfft, Avatar is a sissy man's anime! That's right, I went there :p.

Although I don't care much for the show, I do agree that it's a lot better than 99% of the Nickelodeon TV shows that they put out these days.

Yeah, I created a thread about this a while back. It just seems completely out of left field because the world that Avatar inhabits is the polar opposite of anything that Shymalan has created.

The sad thing is that the guy who did the voice acting for Uncle Iroh, Mako, Died last year :( He's my favorite character of the entire show, too. Uncle Iroh is strong for an old guy, smart, wise, level headed, humble (if you have seen the series for a while, you know why), and loves tea...I love tea :p
Funny thing is the voice actor who plays Kitara was "Maybe" from Arrested Development, lol.

It's actually not that violent of a show, although some of the more evil characters can get a little scary for younger children. Also, the lessons it teaches are not quite so "in your face" obvious as the shows of this type usually are. I can actually sit and watch this show with the kiddies and be fairly entertained. There actually have been a surprising number of well known guest voices on the show (Jason Issacs, Mark Hamill, Clancy Brown). One of the regular voices is the somewhat well known Mako Iwamatsu (Uncle Iroh) who, sadly, passed away last year.

As for the second season DVDs, they are released a disc (5 eps) at a time. The first disc came out a few months back and I believe the next disc is due out next month.

Seriously? There's about an equivolent amount of violence to the typical Disney movie.

Just curious... It does have a Y7 rating, after all.
