What's funny is that if they did all the stuff they did in the OP at a chinese restaurant, it wouldn't even be all that bad to their standards.

congrats OP.... you are a cheap anus.

anything else you want to elaborotely (sp?) justify and admit to ATOT?

cheapskates have totally fugly women in their lives.... thus no pics.

if you want a cheapskates meal and cheaply feed your hideous "female" companion... at least stay home and do society a favor.

I am sure the waiter (waitress) would have loved your cheapskate, "down to the 18th percentile" tip if she actually had been the best waitress in the world.

again, please don't go out. society appreciates it.... cheap ass.

I dont think you should have left such a small tip. It might not have been all her fault. A small tip would have been appropriate but a 25 cent tip is a pure slap in the face.

Why should having your meal ruined by a server who doesn't do their job properly be worth anything more than the price of the meal? Personally, I would have complained to the manager. Cold food is ALWAYS the server's fault. Anyone who has ever worked in a restaurant knows that.

Simply not true. It is possible that part of the meal was prepared but something like a side item was not yet ready. You also have situations where one person's meal was ready before other people at the same table.

yep, there are different stations in the kitchen, one station would be doing pastas, another would be doing grill, another would be doing pantry fry, another would be doing salads. Just because 1 entree is ready doesnt mean the other one is ready as well.

Ive also ran food as soon as it was put in the window and still have customers complain it was cold, sometimes the cooks might not heat the food properly

I'm guessing that everyone who was in favor of no tip, also drives a Camry. ;)

Sorry, that's their JOB...if they want a tip, they have to earn it by giving good service. This attitude of "gimme-gimme-gimme and not actually earning it is pure bullshit...
"Oh won't someone PLEASE think about the servers?" I don't care if it's hard work...YOU take that kind of job voluntarily, so don't complain if you get stiffed after providing crappy service...wanna make more money? EARN IT!

An hour for two appetizers is a REALLY REALLY long time. I would've just left. I don't see how the waitress can be defended if she couldn't even give them extra plates when they were obviously sharing.

All my life. Never been accused of being overly compassionate...
I don't expect to get a tip for doing my job...why does everyone else seem to expect a tip? Servers, maids, paperboy, mailman, garbage men, hair cutters, dog groomers, etc...while I have NO problem tipping for good service, (servers, haircutters, maids, and paperboy) this country has gone tipping crazy. It used to be that 15% was considered to be a good tip. Not anymore. they want 20% as the starting point nowdays...
Fortunately, I live in Kahleeforneeya, where they make the full minimum wage (currently $6.75...heading for $8.00)+ tips instead of the $2.13+ tips, like most of the country, so those folks can still earn some kind of liveable money. (no, I don't think minimum wage is liveable ANYWHERE, but their starting pay is higher before tips)

The point is still that the OP got crappy service, and the waitress did not deserve a decent tip.

NICE GUY EDDIE: Okay, everybody cough up green for the little lady.
NICE GUY EDDIE: C'mon, throw in a buck.

MR. PINK: Uh-uh. I don't tip.

NICE GUY EDDIE: Whaddaya mean you don't tip?

MR. PINK: I don't believe in it.

NICE GUY EDDIE: You don't believe in tipping?

MR. WHITE: I love this kid, he's a madman, this guy.

MR. BLONDE: Do you have any idea what these ladies make? They make sh!t.

MR. PINK: Don't give me that. She don't make enough money, she can quit.

NICE GUY EDDIE: I don't even know a Jew who'd have the balls to say that. So let's get this straight. You never ever tip?

MR. PINK: I don't tip because society says I gotta. I tip when somebody deserves a tip. When somebody really puts forth an effort, they deserve a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, that ******'s for the birds. As far as I'm concerned, they're just doin their job.

MR. BLUE: Our girl was nice.

MR. PINK: Our girl was okay. She didn't do anything special.

MR. BLONDE: What's something special, take ya in the kitchen and suck your d!ck?

NICE GUY EDDIE: I'd go over twelve percent for that.

MR. PINK: Look, I ordered coffee. Now we've been here a long f*ckin time, and she's only filled my cup three times. When I order coffee, I want it filled six times.

MR. BLONDE: What if she's too busy?

MR. PINK: The words "too busy" shouldn't be in a waitress's vocabulary.

NICE GUY EDDIE: Excuse me, Mr. White, but the last thing you need is another cup of coffee.

MR. PINK: These ladies aren't starvin to death. They make minimum wage. When I worked for minimum wage, I wasn't lucky enough to have a job that society deemed tipworthy.

NICE GUY EDDIE: Ahh, now we're getting down to it. It's not just that he's a cheap bastard--

MR. ORANGE: --It is that too--

NICE GUY EDDIE: --It is that too. But it's also he couldn't get a waiter job. You talk like a pissed off dishwasher: "F*ck those c*nts and their f*cking tips."

MR. BLONDE: So you don't care that they're counting on your tip to live?

MR. PINK: Do you know what this is? It's the world's smallest violin, playing just for the waitresses.

People who don't tip suck and, no, I don't live on tips. :p

I don't know what you do for a living. For many of these people, since they have the opportunity for tips, their jobs are not subject to the minimum wage laws.

Not true. ALMOST EVERYONE (except perhaps some sales people and salaried people) is subject to minimum wage laws, HOWEVER, the government in this country has rolled over for the Restaurant owners association (or whatever business group that controls the purse strings) and has said:
"Tipped employees are those who customarily and regularly receive more than $30 a month in tips. Tips actually received by tipped employees may be counted as wages for purposes of the FLSA, but the employer must pay not less than $2.13 an hour in direct wages.

If an employee's tips combined with the employer's direct wages of at least $2.13 an hour do not equal the minimum hourly wage -- $5.15 an hour effective 9/1/97 -- the employer must make up the difference."

This is true. I know a waiter who makes $3.38 an hour(plus tips, of course) while on the clock. He's not an especially good waiter but, dang, $3.38 an hour don't get the bills paid, lol.

Yeah, I don't agree with the law. I think it sux. They should be paid at least the FULL minimum wage PLUS their tips...but, that's the law...

There are some people who will think nothing of going out for steak @ $40 per plate, but will quibble at the thought of leaving a $6 tip for that meal. That fat fvck sure wasn't thinking about money, when he was stuffing that filet and lobster down his gullet. That totaly frosts my ass! Well off people have a tendency to treat working people worse than dogs, sometimes. Some of them, unfortunately, seem to forget about the time in their lives, when they did not have much money.

The waitress should get down on her knees and lick his feet even for a $3 tip. $3 all across the floor plus base salary is already an absurd amount of money for such a job. If you dare to expect more from a client, out the door with your ass, go to McDonalds. You'd be back begging for that $3 tip in no time.

A tip is just that, an extra something for above average service. It's not a ****** charity.

WTH is your point?
While $40 is not the norm for us to spend per plate, we HAVE done it and more a few times. The QUALITY of the service (which includes the quality of the food, speed of service, attention of the server etc. ) decides the tip...nothing else. I don't care if it's standard to tip 15% or 20%, or 50%...if the server earns a good tip, they get it...if not, well...they had their chance.
Sure, there will always be people who don't tip, or are crappy tippers just because that's the way they are. All the bitching and whining on these forums isn't gonna make a bit of difference with them.
This thread is about someone getting BAD serice, and leaving a miniscule tip to make a point to the server...
