So, I just went to NAPA auto parts...

Radiator. Muffler. Various exhaust parts. MAP sensor. O2 sensor. Oil filter. Fuel filter. "The damn belt that drives everything in the engine compartment" "Wait, your engine only has one belt? Crap, I just ordered stuff for the wrong engine". Various hoses. Spark plugs (8 of them). Spark plug wires (8 of them). 4-corner complete brake kits. Lugs. Lugnuts. 4 headlights (GMC OEM style, not stupid ones. Yes, I have 4 headlights). 2 headlight housings (one leaks, have to match it's opposing one). Park lights. Backup lights. Brake lights. Bondo.

I *THINK* that's all I bought, and I'm pretty sure that's not all I needed. The Vandura is getting an overhaul this spring.

I'm not trying to polish the damn thing, I'm trying to keep it usable. The van actually found a new use today, we ghettorigged a wheelchair ramp and can actually take mom places (like the doctor's) without (painfully, for her) lifting and pushing.

Where do you live? My Ram Wagon has an old RICON lift you could probably use.

Maryland. Short hop from I-95.

Hmm...I'm in NJ a few miles fron Wilmington, DE. It's pretty tired, and needs a "tune up" but it's a tough lift style. I ordered the same one for my new van.

Cool...This is it.. As son as I'm done with it, you can have it. They're apparently $4k new.

Good luck accessing all those parts in a van. That's one thing I HATE about ours. Never can do any work on it without having my hands turn to hamburger!

Isn't NAPA kind of pricey? I try to stick with AutoZone and Advance if I can help it.

Last time we did this we used the cheap part shops. Didn't last very long. We just want the damn thing to hit 2010, and then it can retire (or be reincarnated with a Cummins compact straight-6 diesel, fresh interior, fresh paint, fresh electronics). No more overhauls until then.

And yeah, it's a pain in the ass to work on. That's why you do it all at once.

IMHO NAPA is better quality stuff.

NAPA does carry good parts, but I can also get TRW, Borg-Warner, Motorcraft and other name brand parts from AutoZone and Advance. Spark plugs are a good example. The double platinum Motorcrafts are at least 25% more at NAPA.

My wife & boys talked me into buying this thing in 1993, against my better judgment. I knew going in that it would be a bitch to maintain, and it is! Well, anything under the hood anyway. Just swapping batteries leaves the back of your hand scraped and bloody, let alone a thermostat or whatever.

I get my wife's hand-me-down vehicles, so I've been stuck with this thing for a while now. Ain't worth a damn to sell, so I just use it as a daily driver and general winter beater. It's also VERY nice for hauling crap. I can throw 8' sheets of plywood or drywall in there, as well as the tools to install them, and close it up. When it does finally bite the dust, I'll have to buy a trailer, another truck or SUV to replace it. I've gotten used to being able to haul what I want, when I want!
