They just opened back up today since having been bought by TigerDirect... and i have to say, I am both very surprised and impressed... Went to the one in Brandon, FL

I first noticed the difference when I went over by the CPU's, Q6600 at near newegg prices (both OEM and Retail), no more CompUSA 2-3x standard internet price....

They had a wall of power supplies, again, excellent selection and prices compared to anything local. Fairly large HSF selection as well, surprised at the size of some of those Thermaltake Typhoon's....

All the cell phones were unlocked, and at good prices. Many under $100.

It almost felt like a scaled down Fry's, with a good selection and good prices.

I talked to an associate and he informed me that they sell everything at the same prices and rebates at the TigerDirect website, so its nice to finally have a local retailer selling competitively. (I know I know, TD rebates suck... But much of the store was instant rebates)

Newegg still has a slight edge in prices and selection, but I'm happy that I can now get things locally for just a little more (not 2-3x more like usual). They were still getting more shipments in so the store wasn't fully done, but this is MUCH better than the old CrapUSA.

I wish they'd bring one to the DFW area, that way Fry's would have some competition. Fry's would be forced to clean up their goddamn act - sure they have good prices and selection, but their stores are dirty ( even the new ones ), employees kinda just stand there, and their pricing/computer systems are screwed up ( you'll get the advertised price, but you always have to check the receipt and possibly go to customer service - sometimes a 10-20+ minute wait ).

Well, this store looked like a re-stocked liquidated CompUSA with new price tags, lower prices, and better selection...

I dunno if they are planning to rebrand everything, but there wasn't much there except the products...

From compusa website
"The All-New CompUSA is opening 16 stores spring 2008. The All-New stores will bare the new CompUSA.com logo. All other CompUSA retail stores are under liquidation by it's owners and are not affiliated with the new CompUSA.com"

I think the ones you found are for the ones that are closing for good.

I went to the closing of the one here in Tucson and was underwhelmed by the "savings". I'd kill for a computer store with prices even in the same league as NewEgg around here :)

Yep, well even with 60% off the old CompUSA stores were overpriced...

This is a whole new ballgame now...

I stopped working at CompUSA as soon as commission ended. That would be really nice if they reopened the store I worked at here with those prices.

I thought they said that CompUSA would only have Ohio stores when they reopened after the TigerDirect acquisition. Hmm.

None in southern California? It'd be great to have an alternative to BB, CC, or Fry's

actually, I'm going to say he found one of the new ones. CompUSA.com is now owned by Systemax, who also owns TigerDirect. And CompUSA.com now advertises "new! lower prices, wider selection, faster shipping". I'm gonna assume those retail stores that will be converted in spring to 'CompUSA.com' all probably have the lower prices.
I want a list of the stores that will be changing over to the new price scheme and which ones are just gonna be liquidated and closed down. Sadly, the Columbus, OH and Ann Arbor, Michigan stores they used to have are not listed on the store locater (I remember seeing it stated that both stores were going to close immediately when all this liquidation stuff started happening. The latter is where I bought my Sharp 32" LCD, when they surprisingly had a deal that only $100 off from online deals, and when I went into the store I found out it was $100 cheaper than they listed online (but wasn't advertised in-store, oddly enough) and thus it matched the best online deals for a new set! This was about 14 months ago (last December).

Did it really say they would "bare" the new logo?

TD has been under management and really changed their fraudulent ways. I believe they guarantee their rebates now.

Actually, just a quick update... A few things are surprisingly less expensive than Newegg... Shuttle barebones, some other things...

At the other end of the rebate process, TigerDirect is all too quick to debit manufacturers for consumer rebates -- ac- cording to a suit filed by the maker of i-Rocks computer devices, PC USA, based in Walnut, Calif. The controversy began in 2005, when TigerDirect ordered 14,000 units of an i-Rocks optical mouse. PC USA decided to promote its i-Rocks brand by offering a 100% rebate on the $14.99 mouse. It agreed to have those rebates processed by OnRebate.com. The mouse maker soon noticed problems with OnRebate's billings, according to the complaint, which was recently transferred to the federal district court in Miami. OnRebate records omitted information on many of the claimed rebates. The mouse maker found itself being charged two and three times for the same customer. When the little company refused to make any more payments until it got satisfactory documentation, Systemax offered to reduce by $10,000 its $38,228 in outstanding rebate debits. PC USA balked. Systemax then deducted all $38,228 from the mouse manufacturer's invoice. It also held on to the remaining 4,000 pieces of i-Rocks product. PC USA alleges that it lost about $90,000 through TigerDirect's misbehavior.

Thats kinda scary.

Plano & Frisco too far away for you?
