So I just watched the new Dawn of the Dead yesterday...

Like the title says, I just watched the new Dawn of the Dead yesterday. While it was obviously lacking on the underlying social and racial subtexts of the first I had to say it was a very creepy, nay scary piece of work. The first half-hour did well to establish the whole "well the world is pretty f%$#ed" feel that a movie like this needs. And while much of it was predictable a few things surprised me, mostly who did and didn't die. (and sometimes when they did) The only thing that really bothered me was CJ's abrupt shift in priorities, or rather the lack of commentary by him or others on that fact. Looking back I'm surprised to say that as far as zombie flicks go it was realistic: (with regards to non-zombie stuff) no cars exploded spontaneously, nobody had unlimited ammo and most importantly people actually got hurt trying to pull crazy Jackie Chan crap.

Very well done. I may have to purchase it whenever some manner of Special Edition DVD comes out.

Check out the lenghty thread we had when it was first released. We discussed what WE would do in the event of mass zombification.

I dont understand how something like this can just spontaneously start up, and how the army can't control it. I think 28 Days had a better backdrop

The main problem I had with the remake was that everyone died in the end. I hate movies that end on a downer like that. In the original, they flew away in the helicopter, but you have no idea what happened to them afterwards. You can speculate, but you are never 100% sure. In the remake, yup, they're pretty much all dead. And that just pissed me off.

It started with some of the dead rising from their graves and biting people, turning them into zombies. Then it spread through bites. If you were alive and got bitten, then when you die, you turn into a zombie. If you die from other causes, you stay dead.

The Army isn't prepared to fight battles on American soil. Army bases aren't defended for serious attacks, and they didn't have time to prepare a strategy.

it was sweet IMO
and the opeinig with Johnny cash singing - the man come around was the best opening to a movie i have seen in a long time
