Honestly, I had no idea what was going on. Granted I was pretty sleepy going into the theater, but the plot had me lost within about 15 minutes, mostly because half the time I couldn't understand what they were saying. So for the rest of the movie I sat trying to figure out why the producers would cast foreign actors for half the parts as well as trying to rationalize Colin Farrell's embarassingly bad performance.

Oh, and could someone be so kind as to provide a somewhat comprehensive explanation of the plot? It is really bugging me.

Comprehensive...that might take a while. But I didn't think it was bad, aside from Farrell who doesn't play a down-to-earth, gritty American very well.

I dunno, I find Farrell to be mediocre in most of his movies, but this performance was just awful.

Aside from one or two scenes, I can't believe that this movie could have possibly sucked any more than it did. The Bobcat Goldwait (sp?) clone playing Sonny Crocket could easily have been replaced by a claymation character (who would have been much more believable and effective).

I'm even more shocked that it was done by Michael Mann ... it was pretty much a (poor) rip-off of "Smuggler's Blues" from the TV series.

Total waste of time & money

Man(n), it sucked. Seriously sucked. Even the sex scenes ... Nice boats, cars, & airplanes ... some interesting Real Estate.

The entire cast should be shot. Survivors should be shot again.

Bad movie.

(IMHO)

FWIW

Haha.. I suppose the fact that I wasn't sure who you were referring to when you mentioned Sonny Crocket shows the extent of my cluelessness..

One of the things I do remember is having an awful sense of forboding after the opening scene featured a club playing Linkin Park

Guess it is a wait for video then, wonder how many kickbacks the metro movie critic got for giving it a four out of five...I always question his ratings anyway

As I have said in the previous thread, this movie sucked. That is, unless you have ADD so severe that you have the attention span of a crack monkey so this non-linear mishmash movie seems "cool".

Funny how in it's first week it only got 25m, Talladega Nights grossed almost double that. Hollywood wonders why ticket sales are down, well, Miami Vice is your answer.

i didn't hate the movie, but i also didn't think it was good.

basic plot: an FBI undercover case is "blown" when a mole inside a federal agency notifies the bad guys (white supremacist drug trafficing middle-men). miami vice duo takes on the case to find the mole (which they never really discover - they only figure out the agency/office from where the intel is being fed), partially because they previously involved to a witness (police informant) in the case but mostly because they were solicited by an FBI director because Miami PD was not part of the inter-agency task force originally assigned to the case. the rest of the movie is history.

Non-linear? Sorry, maybe we don't have the same understanding of the term non-linear. I am fairly certain that everything in the movie took place in linear order. Mishmash seems off too. Perhaps you are the one with ADD. I did not find it mishmashed, confusing, non-linear, or anything of that sort. Certainly wasn't an innaritu film.
