So I Just Spent 2 Hours at the Gun Range

It may also be best to just practice with a weapon of a smaller caliber for the most part. A 22 pistol is nice for this. Ammo is cheap, and it's not too hard to shoot with. Starting with a big gun might turn your hands into jello.

once you get good aim with small caliber weapons (like the 22), getting better aim with the larger bullets (and more high powered loads) comes easier.

I wasn't entirely serious in the OP. I've been target shooting since I was a kid. Today, with the exception of 5-10 wild ones, I was within 5" groups at 3, 7, 15 and 25 yards. (I use 5" orange dot overlays on all my targets.)

My real problem was that I was shaking out of control and extremely unsteady. As a result it took me forever to take my shots, because I had to concentrate on not shaking. It's been a while since I've been to the range (maybe 3 months) but I've never experienced this shaking before. It's rather disconcerting.

I'm almost always more accurate with a .22 also, but personally I try to practice the most with the guns I actually use for defense - in my case a Sig 226 and 220.

Aren't Sigs great? For time at the range, they're much more enjoyable to shoot than my Kimber, and more accurate. Plus the Kimber jammed twice, and the Sigs... well I have half a dozen of them, and have had them for about a decade, and they've never failed in any way. Ever.

That Kimber is just so tiny though, perfect CCW weapon. Too bad I haven't carried a gun since about a month after I got my CCW permit. Too much trouble carrying a gun around all the time. I'd rather get killed by a robber than go to the trouble.

Give me your Kimber and I'll trade you my Sig P239. You just haven't shot your Kimber enough; a 1911 with a SA trigger is very accurate. I shoot 500 rds. a week and my Kimber is does just fine. Buy a Milt Sparks Versa Max 2 holster and CCW will be no trouble at all.
