Heh...I did the same the other day. I picked up Newsbin Pro as well because Xnews chokes on the large amount of headers available to me now.

I've recently been doing the usenetsever 3 days unlimited plan once or twice a month. 20-30 gigs for $3 is quite a deal. You could easily get more if you tried.

That looks pretty nice, how does it compare to Easynews? (30+ day retention)

Cool, how's the speed? Just the website loads quick and it's certainly prettier than Easynews.. I'm a sucker for snazz.

Newsleecher is great, especially with the Super Search (basically google for the newsgroups)! Almost makes it too easy to fill up the old hard drive. Using that with usenetserver and I top out at 500Kbps!

I've been getting the full speed of my DSL connection (~1.5mbs). The unlimited download account is limited to 600kb/s and 4 connections. I had two connections running.

Sounds nice, when I'm up for another month, I'll have to check it out. I'm not a fan of Easynews' search function...

Newsfeeds allows server searching of of the headers with a capable newsreader. I would imagine alot more do as well. Nowdays, there isn't much reason to download all headers unless you want to browse everything posted. If you know what you are looking for, server-side searching is much quicker.

It was nice and free, but I needed to step up.

I was cheap, so I tried news.astraweb.com and was pretty happy with the service, though my ISP has a good completion/retention server they outsource everyone to. Unfortunately it's locked at 30KB/s, but if you're patient that is sufficient.
