So i just read some of the Skeptics Annotated Bible...

I got through about 15 chapters in Genesis following all cross references and what not, and i'm simply amazed at how rediculous some of the points are. I found a link in someones signature, and it grabbed my curiosity. I dont understand why the bible takes on so much critisism and some ancient documents are left untouched. Anyway, has anybody else read any of this and can you believe how narrow minded some individuals are. I've found that a large amount of people seem to forget that the bible is (especially old testament) simply an account of ancient hebrew and not all the world.. just venting a little bit. if ignorance is bliss, there are a lot of happy people running around...

Some believe that it IS an account of all the world. I had a chat with a baptist who came by my house and the flood came up, and I said sure, it's entirely plausible for there to have been a huge flood in that area, but not the entire world. She wouldn't have it.

agreed. at least skeptics can agree it is a load of bs. its the believers who cant agree on each others interpretations.

Well, what is pretty amazing about the whole book, no other has ever faced as much negative sanctions for owning/reading/sharing it (why?? if its just fairy tales)

Also pretty interesting that all 66 books written by near as many authors over a 3500 yr period still has some congruence. careful analysis reveals it contains not only literature, but genetics, animal husbandry, psychology, rudimentary science and medicine, relational/marital content, prophesy, history, the list goes on.

Unfortunately context is all but lost vis-a-vis translations, lost manuscripts, personal inferences, cultural bent, societal norms...not to mention outright distortions, refusal to accept all (pick and choose what ya want) not to mention being bent and used to prove whatever salient point one wishes to make.

All in all an enduring, interesting compilation at the least...(not referring to OP specific text, but as whole)

A world flood is possible, but you have to remember the conditions would had to have been much different than now, and most likely the world didn't have oceans yet. Two theories - an ice meteor shower, or a worldwide underground spring that finally collapsed.

? Noah, assuming he's human and not some insaine alien species is at most 1-2 million or so years old.

The oceans formed billions of years ago. Pangea dissolved hundreds of millions of years ago.

One of us is a moron. Either it's you for even thinking that there may have been a time when humans existed and oceans did not or it's me for completely missing your sarcasm.

Stop trolling/trying to ruin someon's legit thread you asswipe.

Don't be a dick, he's just accepting the fact that this thread is pretty much flamebait. WTF was the last time you saw a religious thread that didn't end in "WWJD!" vs "STFU FUNDIE!" 😛

No, he's trying to be a funny guy. At least let the fire simmer for a while, as you said, they end that way, so maybe when its ending he can talk about himself or fruitcakes or w/e

Uhm ... ok. I'd be interested in any references supporting either.
In fact, if I recall my genesis corectly, the oceans precede the land "Genesis 9: And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
10: And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good."

Ah, okay. Oops. 😱

Find a website that vehemently defends the Bible. Now put that site in your thread title and everything in your OP would still stand.

What would Jesus do? I'm pretty sure he'd be doing the speed limit.

The speed limit is a law of man.....not a law of God.

I'm pretty sure god dictates that all speed limit markers must end in 5 or 0. All who break this sacred law shall be smote from the earth.
