It must be coming from my other hard drive (the one with all the porn on it). But now I'm getting different pop-ups than my previous install of XP had, and they are even more annoying. The same advertisement for Computer Registry Something Software and the same yes/no box that comes with it, over and over again at least once a minute.

Spyware should be against the law, and the punishment for creating it should be death by stoning.

make sure you have an administrator's password.

i've seen people install without one, and get confused by apps appearing at random.

If you reinstall the point is not to go to porn sites RIGHT away, Jeeze.
Anyway,
1. Reformat again with second HDD unplugged.
2. Install some av (and update)
3. DL and install MS antiSpyware (and update) (also make sure it's scanning real time)
4. Shut down and reboot with second HDD plugged in.
5. Run a full scan with antispyware first then av.
6. Use a firewall
7. When browsing for porn use firefox.

I haven't gone to any porn sites since the re-install.. I'm too lazy to do another install so I plan on just getting a bunch of freeware and seeing what it'll do

I don't believe I've installed anything aside from an old version of Winamp and my video card software. The Winamp could've done it

I thought that this microsoft spyware program verifies your XP installation. Is that still true?

you should first disconnect your internet connection before you reinstall. After you get windows up and running, install AV, then reconnect to update all software.

On a related note does installing sp2 still verify your windows installation?

Kaspersky/Adaware/Spybot gets her done for me.
I tried MS Antispyware and ya know what? I don't want them in my stuff. Call me paranoid. ;)
