So I just purchased something eBay for the first time in years.

And I feel nervous about it. Kind of wrong, but I'm worried about actually receiving the item and if I do receive it, whether it will be as described.

Stupid eBay, what happened to you. :(

Anyone else feel nervous using eBay these days?

I refuse to use ebay unless its for something so cheap that I don't care if I ever get it.

Might as well rename it scammers-r-us

I'm nervous about every private transaction that happens online. I'm paranoid that my shipped package won't make it to the recipient, and I'm paranoid that I'm gonna get screwed by someone that's supposed to ship something to me. My experiences have generally been pretty good. Some Ebay stuff wasn't EXACTLY as described, but close enough. I've been ripped off once at Ebay, but Paypal took care of it, so all was well in the end.

I'm always nervous about online tranactions, but my experiences have been pretty good so far. I think it has something to do with the fact that you paid for something and now you don't have it with you right away, dunno.

Hmm, yeah, I guess it's not really all that warranted, but if I'm dropping $100 on something, would be nice to know it will show up as advertised. Always see the horror stories posted here and elsewhere, but I guess there is no point in people posting when everything goes smoothly.

My current monitor is from ebay and happy as can be about it. I was more nervous about getting one with no dead pixels etc over it being from ebay.

Not at all. Make sure you look through the person's feedback and check carefully if they have a return policy. I've done hundreds of transactions and never had a problem.
Ask them questions too before you buy. If they don't respond to your email requests, don't buy from them. If a seller cannot be bothered to reply to an email/eBay request he's not going to treat you well if there is a problem.

I have had to return a couple things I bought and those also went without a hitch because I asked questions ahead of time.

EBay's been good to me over the years.

Another hint, just in case there is a problem. Pay through Paypal with a CC. That way if something went wrong and Paypal refused to cover it/refund it, you can always go to your CC issuer to get a charge reversed if that were necessary. I have never had to do that but it's nice to have that 2nd option, just in case you ran into a bad seller.

These days even if you receive it in perfect condition you can tell Ebay you didn't and they will kill the seller's family and burn down their house for you. And he can't even leave you bad feedback.

I ordered something 14 days ago and can't get a response from the seller who also hasn't shipped yet, and I sleep soundly. He's got 7 days before I can file a claim and Ebay will reverse the charge and put the money right back in my account. No worries.

I did go through the feedback and it all looked ok (661 100% positive), but I did not enough time to do much else. I did make sure to pay with PayPal CC, that one I know about. I mean it's not huge dollars or anything, but it would be kind of annoying; good to know I would have a bit more recourse using the credit card.

Unless eBay is the only place to get an item (doubtful) ... why would you buy something there if you are going to worry about it? Isn't part of the equation being comfortable and having peace-of-mind about your purchase?

Only place I could find it for an even remotely reasonable price; it's out of print.

Quick question for all of you; I paid for the auction immediately when I won the auction on Sunday and the seller says on the auction that he will ship within 2 business days, which would have been Tuesday. Two quick questions:

1. Do I have to contact the seller at all to get them to ship? Don't think so, but just wondering if thigns have changed.

2. Do sellers always let you know when they have actually shipped something? I always remember being notified when I purchased things in the past, but have not heard anything from the seller.

I was going to contact the seller to see what's up, but I do not want to annoy them; I'd rather annoy you guys instead and this way I can get an answer to overall protocol/etiquette in case I decide to purchase more things. :hmm:

I don't think it is out of line to contact the seller and ask for a tracking number for the shipment.

1. No you don't have to. They know to ship already.
However, nothing wrong with a friendly email a few days past the quoted date. I usually tell them that I've got someone watching for the package and need a general idea of when it will arrive.

2. If they generate the shipping label through Paypal, you get a tracking number emailed from Paypal and Ebay is updated if you click on Items Won on the left hand side of My Ebay.
If they just go to the post office and hook everything up there, you will not get a tracking number unless they come back home and personally email it to you.
Again, a friendly inquiry will usually produce at least a date that they shipped so you can guesstimate.

I only buy from sellers with tons of 100% positive feedback and I never worry.

If you specified that your dildo should be packaged in a non descript way there should be no problem at all.

This is very helpful, thanks so much. I'll shoot the guy a quick message just in case he forgot about me. ():)
