Actually I'll be ordering it today, but I have to ask... Are the Socket 939s that bad? I read the couple threads on S939 3000+ and 3200+ and they say its not that great. I'll be ordering a Socket 939 3200+ from newegg.com and a Zalman CNPS-7000A-AlCu heatsink to pair with it. Mobo is ASUS A8V Deluxe and ram is OCZ Gold PC3700 Rev3. I hope to hit atleast 2.4GHz on this chip. But everyones been saying how hot, slow, etc etc the 939 chips are im worried... Are they that bad? Anyways heres what I ordered

Thermaltake VA3000
Antec True430
ASUS A8V Deluxe
AMD Athlon64 3200+ 90nm S939
OCZ Gold PC3700 Rev3
Logitech Z-640
Plantronic .90Audio
Seagate 200GB UATA Retail Drive
BFG Geforce 6800GT
NEC 3500A
NEC 1.44 Floppy Drive
Canon IP1500

If theres anything you'd recommend I change please do it now, I'm ordering in a few hours. Also discuss what I wrote above please, its getting me worried =(

Only reason I wouldnt get a socket 939 3000+ or 3200+ is because of the lack of decent nforce boards.

Two things:

1) What's the raw clockspeed on the 3200+ Winchester? The 3000+ was clocked at 2800+ speeds(1.8ghz, 512K cache), and wasn't a good deal as a result

2) Newegg doesn't carry any Winchesters yet, so you'll have to buy them from somewhere else.

I have been reading alot of reviews regarding psu's lately. If you have not ordered yet, I would highly reccomend this PSU

The 90nm Winchester 3200+ is clocked at 2.0GHz

Newegg does carry them, they got them in yesterday. It cost 218 at newegg.com, just go to CPU and put in AMD processors, and nothing else. Go to page 3 and it'll be there.

They mislabeled it as 2.2GHz FYI
Interesting, when I do a listing of all the Socket 939 processors, none of the Winchesters show up. Anyhow, read AMDZone's review of the 3000+; as of right now these chips are selling for more than their S754 counterparts($218 vs. $190), and are slower than said counterparts. You're also having to shell out more cash for the S939 board, along with the matching RAM, so they're very hard to reccomend unless you're absolutely sure that you're going to be upgrading the processor later on to something above a 3700+/3800+.

I already ordered guys =/, wish me luck the new chips arent garbage. Guess I'll be your guinea pigs also, I'm going to try to get my chip to 2.5GHz but I doubt it...

Overclocking should be interesting. At this point they haven't been on the market long enough to have a good idea of what AMD's 90nm process can do, so you may surprise us all.😀

Keep us updated. I am considering the same thing.

Hey guys, this is also my first computer build EVER. I'm going to need a lot of help, and I'm wondering if I can have some of your AOL Instant Messanger screen names maybe, to help me out?

well its not that big a deal - the worst thing which could happen is everything goes up in a big puff of smoke and you wasted a lot of money 🙂

Wait for the Nforce Crush chipsets!!!! These are going to be much better than what you are buying now.

I don't upgrade a lot, so it doesn't matter. My next upgrade is in 2-3 years, and by that time PCI-e should be the standard etc. Also I can't hold out for any longer, I have to sell this PC or else I lose the buyer.

hey post a link to that 90nm socket 939 3200+. I have yet to find any 90 nm A64s on neweggs site and 3500+ is the lowest socket 939 processor in their list.

nevermind I found it.
