i'm looking to buy a 19 inch LCD, but then i started reading these forums and saw some great deals for the 2005fpw. i just hope Dell has another sale/coupon offer soon.

Yeah, it's got a couple inches off the top but it's got a couple inches added to the side. Yes I know the screen real estate is still smaller than a 2001FP but it's not by a huge amount. The height of the 2005FPW is actually about the same as a 17" LCD but the width is wider than a 19" LCD by about 3" give or take a bit.
Widescreen gaming and a more natural movie width is why people buy the widescreens. Playing games like FPS's in a native and not stretched to fill widescreen mode you have better periphery vision as you see more of the sides. For viewing widescreen movies, due to the letterboxing, you're probably viewing the movie in about the same size as a normal 19" LCD.
