Moved here for a job that starts next week. Live sort of in West End, but closer to the Fan. Don't know anybody here or any attractions, what should be first on my list? Then second, etc..

Dude, I work in Richmond, but live about 55 miles south of there. I don't know what to tell you. I just started working up there about 3-4 months ago, so I don't know what to tell you to do for fun. Richmond isn't a very progressive city and has a pretty high crime rate. I think you should be ok in the west end. Fan area might be ok, but don't know to much about it. I work pretty close to MCV.

I grew up in Richmond.. there's not much to do there. Some ok places to eat, shop, etc... nothing exciting to see. On a plus side, you are only a couple hours away from the beach and the mountains.

Richmond blows. If you're young, visit either Harrisonburg or Charlottesville on the weekends and party with drunk college kids.

I grew up in Va Beach and lived in the Richmond area for 6 years (lived in Chesterfied county). Your best bet is to go to Va Beach if you are young and want to have any kind of social life.

I live in Richmond, but will be moving to California next month

Theres outdoor concerts at innsbrook every week

There are many restaurants and shopping out at the shortpump area

Richmond, VA was the only city in the USA where 2 malls were built in 2003, Shortpump and Stony Point fashion park, both are outdoor malls and very nice

There are a lot of nightclubs downtown, but dont go alone, it can be very dangerous at night, one of my friends was raped while walking to her car. Go with friends.

Pony pasture if you wanna lay out and get a tan

James river for rafting and canoeing

Contrary to popular opinion here, you can be young and have a social life here. VCU, where I graduated from has around 29k students enrolled between the main campus and the Medical school. Thats huge considering the population of Richmond is less than 200k

You can have a lot of fun here, just be careful, in the fan and downtown

The outlying areas like Midlothian and Shortpump are some of the safest areas in the country, unfortunately the city itself can be dangerous

Food tax for restaurants and fast food in the city is like 10.5%, in Henrico and Midlothian its 5%, they were gonna raise it in Henrico but it got voted down by the residents

The women here are really really hot, I hope the women in California are as hot

Im gonna miss living here, but am happy to be moving to California

Ive lived here for some time. Born in Williamsburg, and came here after living in manassas. There is alot to do here. Check out a place called Innsbrook as was said, and also there is a place at the corner of cox and broad, a pub. The buildings are teal topped. For the life of me i cant remember the name. Great place to have a few beers, and have a great time. Also, downtown is nice, in the evening, just dont go down any dark roads alone. Go with people.

Oh, lots of sports here recreational wise. One of the greatest indoor sports facilities ive ever seen. Its called RISE. Its in chesterfield. South of you down 288.

Sure, I'll go visit, I won't get stabbed will I?

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, they help a lot. My first day after unpacking wasn't very adventurous; I drove up and down broad street / 250 and saw Superman at the Science Museum's IMAX. I also found where Cary street is since my company does dinners at the Tobacco Factory sometimes.

I like a lot of the old buildings that are being either preserved or rehabbed. Saw some condos in an old bakery, etc etc.

Klin: I'd rather not say where I work due to my boredom-fueled rants I sometimes lay out here, it's a large firm.

joshsquall: Harrisonburg? There's even less to do there. I lived in Staunton and went to school in Blacksburg until now, so I'm sort of bored of the small-town college omg dudes thing.

I'll keep the hot girls vote in mind, as I haven't seen many yet. Maybe a trip to short pump is in order.

Went to school in Blacksburg for about 4 years. Then moved to Richmond also since I can't afford to go back to Northern VA. Nothing much down in Richmond, i usually hang out in the West End area since it's a lot safer. Off Richfield parkway. I actually just bought a house in the hood though. Stay away from exit 75, near Gapen Court I think. You can find drug and hoo$er there. hehehe

Go eat at Bottom's Up pizza!

There's a pretty good french restaurant in the West End called Chez Max.

You like punk? There's a pretty good-size scene, last I heard.

I'll be back down there when VCU starts up again. If you figure out something fun to do, let me know, because I haven't found anything yet.

Oh yeah, some AMF has buffet bowling from 9-12. I think for $10+shoes, you can bowl all your want until they close.
