So I just heard Jay-Z's new song

I guess he's coming out of retirement...again. I don't get it, why is this guy regarded as one of rap's greats? He has no range whatsoever, he's monotonous as hell, his lyrical content is juvenile. Seriously, what is it about Jay-Z that makes him more popular when there are so many better (IMO, I guess...) rappers? I pretty much feel the same way about Notorious BIG, who sounds like he raps with twinkies shoved in his cheeks, and P. Diddy Daddy w/e, yet they're some of the biggest names in rap. Why?

It's pop music ... therefore there is no talent. Well ... maybe for rap ... but that's like trying to say The Carmack is the greatest programmer ever. He's just well known. In softwre, there are thousands of better programmers.

You obviously haven't heard much of Jay's catalog...

EDIT: On another note, the single does suck. This is typical though, he is in the business of making money and his singles are usually throwaway tracks

obviously, you have to hear the song to catch the flow but the words speak for themselves. I'm sure there is better but this is one of my favorites.

I think a lot of people who say Jay and Tupac and Biggie are the greatest rappers really haven't been exposed to much of the real fire that goes unplayed on the radio.
