So I just had my first experience in jury duty selection...

it was down to me and one other person to be selected as the final alternate...

i felt like i won survivor kinda when the judge dismissed me.

i found some of the questions the lawyers asked to be real strange....

one question they kept asking each set of potential jurors was, "do you want to be here?" and everyone is like afraid to say no, or maybe they do want to be here... is this a trick question that can get you in trouble if you say no?

I thought the members of the jury were supposed to be experienced lawyers and not randomly picked people.? Or are these differnet people i'm talking about?

You are thinking about counsel, jury are the poeple who give verdicts in murder cases and such based on counsel's testimonies.

I'd actually like to be chosen, would be a nice experience I think. I guess I feel that way just because of the cases I've researched and studied, would highly doubt I'd get anything even remotely interesting/controversial 😛

So these randomly picked people who form the jury give verdicts in murder cases?

i was chosen for two different cases and i didn't end up having to hear either one... the first one was a drunk driving case and the arresting officer didn't show so the case was dismissed. the second was a domestic violence case that had been through the system a few times and the two parties were trying to work it out without a trial and they ended up working it out; it was a little weird... sitting in the small room in the back of the courthouse talking with the judge.

here in michigan i think they randomly select drivers license numbers; then you've gotta go to the courthouse on the certain day and they sure do ask a lot of seemingly weird questions... i could tell that some people were giving completely BS answers to get out of hearing a case. it was in the spring and they told us the dates and most people said that they would be on vacation during that time and were excused

I think you're thinking of the lawyers.

how does the process work?

I heard you first go in and some of those court employees question you first to see if you should be a possible juror or not. If you actually get through that...

Then you go to the courtroom where then the lawyers get to pick you.

so back to the original post's question...

and anyone can be selected for jury duty except peace officers if i remember correctly. they choose from registered drivers.

Yeah remember the ol' sayin' "jury of your peers". Its all about being judged by common reasonable people, not some elitest govt entity.

Police officers, Judges, Firemen, lawyers, all can serve on a jury (most likely won't get picked though). There are exceptions, such as conflicts of interest and convicted felons. I am not aware of any job that excludes you legally from serving on a jury unless there is some type of conflict of interest involved.
