Ok I used to have the Altec Lansing AVS500 speakers, and my sound card is a SB Live! 24-bit card.. Like I said I just got the Logitech X-530s from OfficeMax. I have everything plugged in, and when I press the power button to the speakers the power signal light comes on. The volume on the speakers and bass is both up.. I have everything posisioned.. I read the manual.. When I turn on my computer, I can hear sort of a "boom" if you will coming out of the speakers, like that lasts a second or so just as i give power to the computer. But then when Windows XP loads up theres no volume, and no volume in MusicMatch Jukebox.. so I'm not sure whats wrong... Anyone know?

Yeah I had the same issue. I forgot exactly what to do but in one of Creative's software things, there's a "Cross-Fadeback" or something in the sound effect editor. Unfortunately I won't be home in 2 weeks so I can't tell you exactly waht it is, but you know where to look now.

Also check to make sure that Digital Output is disabled.

Oh, sorry for not being so clear. When you go to the start menu, programs, there should be a Creative Labs menu. From there, take a look. I beleive it's in Creative Diagnostic Tools but I'm not sure.

If you don't get this problem fixed in 2 weeks, PM me because I'll be home by then ;).

Creative labs sucks, that's why. You can only download the driver from creative IF YOU HAVE THE CD INSERTED INTO YOUR CD DRIVE. Haha. This is why everyone hates Creative.

A) Find your CD
B) Resort to file sharing networks (this isn't piracy, it's just their stupid driver policy) to get an ISO of their CD.
C) Post on anandtech in General Hardware asking for the driver for your card. I have a different card than you, so yeah.
D) Call Creative
E) Look for 3rd party driver support as a last resort.

Ok good news I got the Sub and 2 (Rear right/rear left) satellites working, but I still am getting no sound what-so-ever out of the other 3 satellites. My sound card supports 4 audio jacks, and the instructions stated to connect the Black and green plugs to the card, and do not connect the orange plug. It didn't menchion any loss of volume, but it said you won't hear the rear satellites on a 2-channel sound card (by not connecting black or orange plugs). Anyway, is this a software problem that i am only hearing 2 satellites and 1 sub? Or would I need to get some sort of adapter to plug all 3 in to get volume out of all of them? If so, what sort of adapter and where can I find one? thanks Pentium guy!!

When I hooked up my logitech Z680 (or were they 480's?) only the 2 fronts + the sub worked. Why? I didn't enable 5.1 surround, look in the diagnostics for this :p.

I still wanna know how you managed to get the thing working without drivers!

I couldnt find it in the Diagnostics for anything about 5.1 sound or an option for it, just 4 speakers, 2 speakers, or headphonmes, and its set on 4 speakers. I also went to control panel and its on 5.1 surround there too.

Turn on (or off maybe) the Matrix thing in your speakers (there should be a button right on your speakers).
Also go to the Creative Surround Mixer and there should be a tester utility for that (it'll say stuff like "Front left, Front Right, Rear Left, Rear Right, Subwoofer"

Can you do me a favor and send me the link your friend gave you? ;).

yeah i did the test and it only said "rear left ... rear right.." no front speakers or center speaker. The only buttons that i know of on my speakers are a power button, volume switch, and a headphone insert..

the site was www.sof32.com i think .. But I dont remember the exact link, I can ask him when I get back from vacation in a week and ah alf though, or if I see him tommroow before that

Could have been 2.1 surround drivers. Never know. Checkif your connections are good. Or, even better, see if your front speakers are fubar'd by plugging them into the rear jack.

Anyone think I might need an adapter? Or should the speakers work without the orange plug? (all of them)

Your SB Live! control utility program should definately have an option for 5.1

You'll need three connections from your z-530s to your SB Live!. The colors should match up unless one of them doesn't have the standard colors (green for front, black for back, orange for center/sub).

Did you try The Pentium Guy's suggestion of switching the green/black connections in back and then running the surround test again? What happens?
