So, I just got back from the Skywalk, Grand Canyon, etc.

I got back on Monday actually, but just transferred my videos and pictures.

We went to Vegas and the Grand Canyon, including the Skywalk. There are some other threads about the Skywalk, but I wanted to offer what I think is the first ATOT account. It's not worth it, in my opinion.

1) You can't take on any camera equipment. This was noted in the other threads, and it's true.

2) It doesn't go out that far. It doesn't look very impressive in person.

3) There are more impressive views from other areas.

That's my take anyway. Here is a picture of us sitting on the edge of a 4000' drop. I thought it was fun at first, but it was disorienting to look down for a while. Another pic from Guano point.

Other than that, we stayed at the Four Seasons in Mandalay and had a great time. This post was mostly about the Skywalk though.

If anyone has any questions or anything about the Skywalk, any of the tours around there, etc. let me know and I can probably help.

[edit]Oh, and I have videos from around (not on) the Skywalk if anyone is interested, but there's nothing really interesting about it, imo.[/edit]

I get that feeling too :) I actually started to get a little dizzy just from looking over it. Now that I think about it, it probably wasn't too bright for me to sit there and then invite the little lady over to do the same

This is the Skywalk. I've heard several excuses as to why you can't bring cameras, but I'm going to just go ahead and assume that it's so people will retain interest. The official excuse, from what I heard anyway, is so that people don't accidentally drop the cameras and scratch the glass, etc.

I have only about 150 pics, but I took a lot of video.

This was an old mining operation on the edge of the Canyon.

Another view from near the edge.

This is a view of the Colorado from within the Canyon. We took a helicopter to the Colorado, so this pic was taken from within the helicopter.

was the skywalk crowded?

Not really, no. There were a hundred or so people throughout the entire area, and that includes the tiny airport and the various stops. It might be more crowded during the summer though.

Correct. It might be worth it if the skywalk was more of a platform than some narrow walkway and you could take photos/videos. It just didn't give me the sense of walking in the sky as the name might otherwise imply. Still, if you're there, for $25 you might as well see for yourself :D

lol i love how the canyon just looks like a printed backdrop with some props in the foreground!

i got my pic taken at the rim somewhere and seriously it looks like i went into a studio, sat on a plastic rock and had my picture taken infront of a back drop. lol

I know what you mean. For something that was created through an extended period of what is ultimately a destructive process, it is oddly quiescent.

Sounds like the Skywalk sucks just as much as I thought it would. What a waste. Having indian reservations is what I'm referring to.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it something like $25 for the skywalk per person but it's $50/pp just to get onto the reservation to get to the skywalk? $75 is way too much money imho.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Canyon_Skywalk

The attraction is open to visitors for a fee of $25 (USD) per person to walk out on the Skywalk. In addition, visitors must purchase a tour package of $49.95 (USD) per person. Alternatively, visitors can buy a tour package starting at $74.95 to $199.00 (USD) per person that includes the Skywalk. There is also a fee of $10 (USD) to enter the reservation.

Do they make you take your shoes off and walk on it with fuzzy bunny slippers?

Seriously, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard...
