wow, such a hax0r you are

respect your neighbors' privacy, and do them a favor by letting them know their network is unsecure.

So is it hacking if my neighbor still uses the default password assigned to his router and I accidentally found out?

;)

no, it's not hacking. it's an invasion of privacy.

no one thinks you're hot sh|t for testing out default passwords on your neighbor's router.

why would you need free internet, if you obviously already have your own?

that being said, i found a few networks around my house too after installing my wireless router last week.. 1 protected, 3 unprotected, and 1 is mine

Oh, my brother put up wep or something on my router so I need him to get home to change the password on the router.

Anyways, is it better to have your attenna horizontal or vertical?
I think I get better signal w/ it horizontal.

i'm thinking vertical.. i don't see any advantage to putting it horizontally.. you can always take the antenna off, and make yourself a circle antenna.. that'd cover everything

On the 10 mile drive from my house to best buy, net stumbler found over fifty networks, 95% of them were not secure and were broadcasting the ssid.

These wlan kits really should be set up so you have to change the password during install and with at least basic security enabled out of the box, not just WFO like they do, so many people just have no clue:confused:

unfortunately, that would blow peoples minds and they would get too many returns for their routers "not working". i think they need to make their access points as "accessible" as possible...with the option of security. else Joe Average User will be calling tech support 24-7..

but i agree, over the years to come, *something* has to be improved in this regard (i have 10 available networks from my seat in my apartment right now...and 6 are unsecured)

I don't know about that. People are pretty used to having passwords for internet sites. If the router made the user create a password on install it should be pretty easy.

you don't need that when you have your own network. btw, turn off SSID broadcasting.
