Why on earth are there playgrounds at mcdonalds? Seriously, if you really think about it you have a fast food joint with an elaborate playground. It only seems ok to me because I grew up never debating that fact, but when I really think about it, it just seems like two things that dont belong...

/Yay for marketing to kids
//Just saw supersize me
///never liked mickyd's to begin with, always a BK fan

Other then thinking about mickyd's, how often do you associate a restaurant and a playplace

Many BK's have playgrounds also. What's your point?

Seems like genius marketing to me. make the kids want to go to mcdonalds even more, makes the parents wants to take them there since the playground is free and the kids can jsut run around

Not very often, but I do associate playgrounds with fun, which makes good business sense. And after 120 billion meals served or whatever they're up to now, I wouldn't really argue with 'em.

Well.. let's just say. The kid gets hungry, begs the parents to take them to McDonald's, the parent gives in. Profit for McDonald's.

The best thing they ever did was close off the play area from the restuarant. I like McDonald's for that reason...if i decide to go there (once a month at most) i don't have to deal with all the annoying unsupervised kids running around the inside of the resturant....they are all out on the play area.

guess you dont have any kids (I dont either, but my marketing brain is telling me this), if you are a parent, where else can you bring your kids to play to kill a few hours for under 10 bucks, and get a meal at the same place/time.

CAPTAIN OBVIOUS TO THE RESCUE!

because kids like playgrounds and kids ask to go to mcdonalds to play on them? and that means the family buys food? and associate fast food with fun? MAYBE that has something to do with it...

this like asking why bars have televisions or pool tables. congratulations, you have no future in marketing or business.

McPlaygrounds are gross. Half eaten frech fries smeared all over the place. Nasty little germ bags everywhere. Yuck.

Little Caesar's Fun House?
Chuck E. Cheese's?
Dave & Buster's (more adult) ?

It's not a new concept...it's cheap to put in a play area, and brings in parents with kids.

Chucky Cheeses, Circus Circus, Dineyland, just about every other theme park or Vegas attraction.

I always thought it was a good idea... to take kids there as a treat.. let them eat, then run around and play.

I remember though some of the mc d's when i was little had a play ground outside.... i thought that was better than the germ traps they have inside. I cannot imagine how dirty those are and would assume they do not clean them all that often.
nevertheless.... mc donalds is trying to be more "balanced" with the happy meal choices by offering fruit and milk instead of just frys and soda.
