So I just bought new Canon IP3000

How does is you install this thing? I want to print to it but there's no cable, just one with power goes into socket. Is not me doing anything wrong I hope.

You need to buy a usb cable or printer cable. Printers don't usually come with the printer cable

bingo

off you go to walmart or wherever to spend 20$ on a printer cable

do you mean USB2?

any normal USB printer cable shoudl work with it, you can always ask a sales person for help

Shop around for a USB2 printer cable of the length you need, but above all DON'T BUY A $20. CABLE. You should be able to get a 6 to 10 footer for $10. or less if I can buy one from compgeeks for $2.00. Call around to the smaller, locally owned comp shops. The big-box stores have wildly inflated prices on cables but perhaps WalMart might not be so bad but IDK as I haven't priced cables there.
. Heck, even I could ship you a 6 foot Belkin cable (packaging-reduced) or a 10 foot generic for $7. shipped via First Class Mail.

.bh.

Ok. Can I use my old USB cables from my old printer and still get faster USB? My motherboard has USB 2.0 on it.

More than likely it'll work...hook it up and go...

Your other cable should work. I use an usb cable I had from a scanner. Before there was usb 2.0. Printer still prints pretty fast.

Yea totally ridiculous. 25' Ethernet cables are $32 a piece.....

Most highly marked up item ever, same thing goes for memory cards. Cost for a 6 foot usb cable is only about 4 bucks. Cost on a 256 mb compact flash is around 13 bucks.

Is it just me or are the colors on this thing GOD DAMNED awful? The blacks look completely washed out without any definition and depth. The colors are totally out of gamut looking. I'm using the ink that came with the printer on photo matte paperand find that my old Epson printed much more natural looking colors than this thing even without adjustments. Does anyone here have a clue to how to get this thing looking OK? I'm using the highest print settings possible and colors still look wacked out.

It may need replacement. Mine is fabulous. Another thought...After you set it for high quality, did you click apply before you clicked OK?

Yea I did that. Other than the blacks, every 'vibrant' looking color prints wayy too dark even comparing the image to my screen which is set to 6500k temp. Very odd.

Just for the heck of it, I'll reduce the saturation levels of my monitor and turn off any color management....

Image on my monitor looks like ass now but maybe I'll get a bit more consistant output....

Yes I've tried just about every icm profile and tried that with illustrator and photoshop. the reds are just too wacked out and blacks are washed out. Well what can I expect from a sub $100 printer?
