So I just bought Company of Heroes 2

Downloaded it off Steam. The highest resolution I can make it is the 1900x1300 (or whatever is similar). It doesn't even fill up my whole computer monitor, and looks like complete shit. Is this right? It looks 1000 times worse than the first Company of Heroes, even with graphics features all the way up. I can't believe this.

I dont know what monitor you are using, but if it goes past 1920x1200, then I know damn well it has settings to fill the screen regardless of resolution.
My 11 year old monitor can do that.

I have it and have no issues. Im running 1900x1200, it fills up my screen and looks awesome. This is on a 24in monitor.

OK, thanks guys. I must just be doing something wrong. Will try again when I get home.

Is the gameplay worth it? I may need to finally get myself a copy...

Haven't played yet Spike. Just weird that I put the setting up to the 1900x level and it looked like such crap and only took up a fraction of my 27" screen. Must have missed some setting.

I bought it day one at full price, and wish I had waited. But if you got half off or so, it is probably worth it. A lot of reviewers ripped the single player campaign, but I thought it was pretty decent. Didnt play a lot of multiplayer. Skirmish mode seemed really difficult, even on easy setting.

I had no graphics issues at 1080p, but the game seems to be quite demanding for just so-so graphics. Are you running in windowed mode by any chance?

I liked the game; played a good chunk of multiplayer although I was only mediocre at it having never played the original. Never could get into the single player campaign. I imagine I'd get smashed by everyone now that I haven't played it in months. Match making was terrible.

frozentrundra, I do not believe so, and I didn't see any settings for windowed mode on/off in the game. The game literally plays in the center of the screen, with the whole rest of the screen surrounded by black, so I don't think it is in windowed mode.

Could my video card be way too shitty or something? I have like a Radeon 9600 or something. I would think it would be OK for a non-FPS game.

Can you play other games full screen? Could be that a card that old does not support the resolution of your monitor.

COH2 is one of the most demanding games out there, despite being an FPS and despite not looking significantly better than COH. The 9600 is going to have problems with it, it may even crash.

But fyi, based on this page http://www.techspot.com/review/689-company-of-heroes-2-performance/page3.html, COH2 can do up to at least 2560x1600 resolution.
It also supports windowed mode, just press alt+enter.

Anyhow, get the latest drivers for your graphics card and see if that fixes things, also figure out what graphics card you have.
The radeon 9600 is circa 2002 I think, and definitely would be unable to run coh2.
A radeon 6950 would be more than capable.
A geforce 9600 would be borderline capable of running it.

Yeh the game is just a poorly optimized mess. One of the worst optimized games out there, considering the fact that it looks exactly the same as the first game I find that offensive.

Even a Titan can't do 60fps in CoH2 .. its quite a mess as has already been stated. I still find its my go-to game even after its faults crop up.

I'm actually surprised an Nvidia 9600 (assuming a GSO card for OP) can even play the game.

I played the beta at 1650x1050 on a GTX260. I'm pretty sure everything was on medium but I can't remember. Personally it didn't look all that different from the first CoH but still looked and played nicely.

I've got a 7970, so his 9600 should be able to play it even better.

I've been playing the first COH after months of playing COH2...they really aren't that much different as far as graphics go. I think the scenery in COH2 may be a bit better but the units/textures are about the same.

COH2 pissed me off with the most recent patch, waiting that one out until it's fixed.

Why does the last patch piss you off?

The only thing I noticed was theres no more lag.

The patches recently seem like a rollercoaster lately of Nerfs and Buffs.

I'm generally an exclusive German player and have been playing since beta. While I've considered it generally "balanced" since the start, the more recent patches in the name of "balance" tend to get annoying. The game has always been Germans=Tank Russians= Infantry and that's fine...but it makes no sense why clowncars are possibly (truck+sniper or flamethrower riding inside= bye bye infantry squads). The fact that a spot on dive bomb from a stuka doesn't kill a stationary T34 and many other nuances that just got to me.

I've gone back to COH1, and while I suck, I am having a little more fun than I did in COH2 over the past few weeks.

good but not sure if i would pay more than 10 to 20 for it. i played the public beta for 2 weeks so i also got somewhat bored of it. would be a good game to come back to every once in a while. would be nice to have more factions and maps although
