So, I installed SP2 for XP

Well, the computer still runs like it used to (for hte most part).

But it seams to have slowed down. It runs even slower than the original XP?!?!?!?! WTF?

Am I missing something here. Is themes reset oractive desktop? What is going on?

did u turn off security center/automatic updates/firewall? doesnt seem slower to me... i do get occasional ocx induced IE crashes i never seen before however.

I have no problem with SP2 so it must be the luck of the draw.

If you have a firewall and don't use IE (probably 60-75% of AT), I see no need to install it... is there something I'm missing?

there's an excellent thread on the software forum about how to speed up XP.

among other things in that post, make sure you look at this list of XP services. it's kinda long, but will surely help you free some RAM.

My linux installation is running as fast as the day I installed it, even been through 3 different cores. :shrug;

I did a clean reinsatll with a version of XP that had SP2 built into it, have had Zero problems.

It patches all the security holes and has a lot of bug fixes, plus adds security and spam protection to MS email apps. There's also a Wifi connectivity update and some other features added.
