+1. Cotton is pretty stretchy. It should go back down to shape after you take the shirt off unless you popped some threads and ripped a sleeve off of it.

you can usually tell before you get a shirt all the way on if it is going to be too small for you

I think you're obligated to be able to tell that it's going to happen before you try them on. Cotton shrinks- if you're stretching it before it's even washed, you're really bad at knowing what size you are.

It's not that big of a deal but I would feel really foolish and probably let a salesperson or manager know. How the hell do you not realize that it's not going to work and yet you continue to pull your fat head through it? Hopefully it was just some Old Navy shopping or something and it wasn't worth anything.
