So I inadvertently raced a cop from a red light last night

Well, kinda.

I was on a 2 lane street in the right lane, the left lane was left turn only. It was only half a block to Blockbuster and I was in my SUV talking to my wife, 2 kidsand mom. The light turns green, I go. All of a sudden, the car next to me guns it and goes straight. I'm like WTF? After 1/4 of a block the guy backs off because he was headed directly into oncoming traffic with no more room to go. Then all these lights come on and I hear sirens. It was a cop. I pull over and he gives me a real nasty look as he leans over to the passenger side window when he pulls up next to me. Again, I'm like WTF? What did I do? I wasn't even going 25mph and I didn't gun it. He pauses for about 2 seconds and then takes off without the lights on.

Sorry, that's about as exciting as it gets as a married man with kids.

I didn't race him. I just went straight at a normal rate of acceleration at the green. Why would I need to gun it when the store is 1/2 block away and I've got my entire family onboard?

I did that once but I swear the cop was enticing me to! Luckily it was a Sherrif's Deputy who could see I was scared (didn't even ask for my registration/insurance) and I got off with a warning. I'd only been driving for about a year at a time.
