We just finished restoring the wood floors in the living room and hallway in our house. Its solid oak floor now with 6 coats of clear varnish on it. It looks great but there is a problem: The furniture slides around on it. For instance, sit on the sofa with even the slightest force and it will slide. The sofas are pose the largest problem since everything else just kinda "sits" without any other forces on it. The sofa and loveseat both are exposed frame with 3x3 sized legs. Its somewhat like mission style if you don't know what I'm talkin about. Basically, what can I use to hold them in their place(s) on the floor.

You can buy rubber pads with an adhesive on them that you stick on the legs of the furniature for dual purpose - 1 to protect from scratches, and two, to prevent them from sliding around.

Home Depot sells "no slip" pads for rugs. By a small piece and cut it to put under the legs of your sofa! :)

I would get the rubber pads without adhesive. They are much easier to deal with.

Yup, I'd go with the rubber pads. They come in many colors, and are almost a checkerboard weave type of pattern. For additional stability, perhaps you could sand the bottom of the furniture?s legs where they will come in contact with the pads.

After all that work!! F no man. My dad was talkin about it and I was ready to tell him off. All that hard work just to cover it up again (wood floors had carpet over them for the last 20 years).

No matter how good of a job you did on the floors DON'T try sliding around on your knees or butt on them. We had redone our floors and my little bro did this. There was one plank that had just a little of an edge exposed and it ended up giving him a nasty splinter in his rear. Looking back now it's really funny (actually it was really funny at the time) but I don't think you want to repeat his mistake.
