So, I have to put an announcement on a website...

Regarding an event that will happen this weekend, and make it flashy.. Should I make it just a "text" announcement, or use flash?

Embedded flash is terrible. If the entire site isn't done in flash, don't bother.

Why can't you do something in the "press release" section of the site? If there isn't one, make one and have this be the first press release. Make it look all professional.

Use flash.
Have a nice fancy announcement, then after it's been loaded for 5-10 seconds, have it blast a scream, play death metal, and flash a picture of some sort of horrible atrocity.
Guarantees a memorable announcement.
