Then when you actually need money for something, you'll have it.

Vanguard.com VFINX f00!

But that's a long-term investment that requires self-discipline, for the OP just staying out of deep CC debt is a good first step.

I'm not in deep CC debt, the only debt I have is from college

edit: I'll do the right thing, and start a savings account

So pay it down instead of buying things that you don't need.

Get out of debt and build up some emergency cash before throwing money away.

Very true.

I thought of buying a 4000+ or 4800+ X2 and 7800GTX after I got my annual bonus, but sent the money off to my brokerage instead. My 3.2C and 6800 work just fine for the games I'm playing, and the fund shares will increase in value while I use what I have.

When I upgrade next year, prices will be cheaper and I'll have the extra money from investing, win-win.

but boooring 😛

Yeah. "oh look, my fund shares have increased in value, yippee!"

But having cash in savings is nice, knowing I can quit tomorrow and be able to take my time finding a new job. Work is a lttle less stressful knowing you don't need the job to make this month's rent payment.

The savings account itself is boring too.

Oh well, maybe I'll buy a new TV to cheer myself up, now that I've preached the virtues of thrift 🙂
