I posted a similar topic over a month ago, but at the time, all I had sitting around was an early Celeron 1.4GHz, 256MB of memory, and an Intel mATX motherboard.
This time, I'm coming back with the same question, but armed with an AMD X2 4200+ (socket 939), ASUS A8N-SLI Premium, and 2x512MB of Corsair XMS, 2.5-3-3-6. They're parts from my old system; the person I originally sold it to REALLY wanted to upgrade to Core 2 Duo, so I'm building it as a present for their birthday.
So, if you were in this situation, what would you do? Sell it? Turn it into a file server? Donate it to a local school? Look for a cheap Opteron 165 and go for suicide overclocking? I wouldn't mind using this thing as a test rig for experimental cooling, but I don't really have the room to set up another case in here. Too bad it isn't a socket 775 board or DDR2 memory, or I'd buy an E4300 and see what it can do.
All suggestions are welcome.
