so i have my xbox 360 open...

Cooling looks abysmal, plastic hood looks cheap and aluminum cooler no wonder they overheat and break...

So I was wondering what kind of mods are worth doing to make sure it lasts me long time, I was thinking to make custom themed case so this will be a project.

Ideas? Suggestions for improved cooling and non stock case, something cool?

The best mod you could do to make your 360 last a long time is to go back in time, not open the case, and let MS replace it under warranty when it breaks. I have no idea why someone would purposely void the warranty on an electronic device with such a high failure rate.

BTW, the plastic hood looking cheap is not going to cause anything to overheat. It doesn't need to be built like tank to direct air.

This is a bad place to ask - we're generally the idiots who get our kicks from playing games with our consoles, not tearing them apart and rebuilding them.

Xclamp mod your 360, no joke. Mine had a partial red-ring (as in one of the light quadrants was red with error E74) and I did the Xclamp mod, brought my 360 back to life. I would definitely recommend doing it since you already have it open.

Seriously... it took me less than a week to get the RRoD replacement from MS. Phone support was very helpful (though not easy to understand). Shipping/turn around was surprisingly awesome.

@ OP: was there a reason you decided to rip your 360 apart? Was there some other problem you were fixing (out of warranty)... were you doing some sort of mod... or did you really just rip it apart to void your warranty and look inside?

I managed to get my first 360 open without braking the seal. The seal was loosely put on and was not ripped when I removed the plate. On side of the seat was not pressed on right so I just left it that way.
