My doctor appointment is tomorrow, but is there anything I can do now to relieve the anvil that is on my face?

I usually try some over-the-counter non-prescription decongestants like sudaphed (pseudephedrine) and a good pain reliever. Then I retreat to the bathroom and take a bath (or shower if you prefer) as HOT as you can stand it without burning your skin. Close the bathroom door and trap the steam inside (it helps loosen the congestion).

Alm,

I've had 3 infections in the last 3 months. They are very debilitiating. I went to an ear/nose/throat doctor and was told I have a deviated septum. Currently scheduled for sinus surgery at the end of this month. Not looking forward to it. If you have more than one infection per year consider going to an ear/nose/throat doctor and getting a CT. My CT clearly showed how one side of my sinus is nearly closed off - allowing infection.

What might help is to place a hot washcloth on your nose, to loosen up some of the snot. It will relieve some of the pressure.

On a side note, I'm coming down with one, too, and it sucks. :(
